So, who are we?
Oh, hi. It’s a pleasure to speak with you.
We’re Small Apparel from Portland, Oregon, and we create well designed, super comfy graphic clothes for kids and babies. We’re a teeny-weeny family run business (Amanda, Ryan & Calvin) and we’re changing the way that we do business.
We need your help.
How are we changing the business?
If this campaign is successful (fingers crossed), we’ll be able to decrease our production costs significantly, allowing us to give 25% of our profits, until the end of time, to various deserving nonprofits. HOLY MOLY.
Please note that the funds from this Kickstarter won't go to the nonprofits (as it's against Kickstarter rules), but 25% of everything we sell after this will.
How will this work?
After this Kickstarter is over, each season (four per year), we will partner with a handful of nonprofits that we think are doing great work for kids, and design clothes inspired by them. For each item that we sell, 25% of the profits will go to the charity that inspired the design. Easy, right?
So, why don’t we do that now?
Our current fulfillment set-up uses an on-demand printer who also ships our stuff to customers. Which is great! It really is great. But the downside is, we don’t really make that much of a profit (sometimes none), and we don’t want to raise our prices at all.
Further complicating things for us, our current fulfillment provider has a limited number of items that they stock and that we can sell. We want to expand our lines to include other awesome stuff (hats, sunglasses, flying cars, who knows??!?!) and the only way to do that, is by having inventory ourselves, which brings us to…
What will we do with the money?
We will abscond to the Netherlands, never to be heard from again!
No we won’t.
We’ll instead use the money that you are so generously providing (thanks again!) to stock our tiny first floor apartment with lots and lots of cardboard boxes full of awesome apparel. We will also get that apparel printed locally here in Portland, and then shipped out to you. PLUS, we’ll stock our online shop and spread the word about our company and the awesome charities that we’ll work with.
We’ll also use some of the money for boring things like taxes and fees and whatnot. Yaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwn.
Here’s a simple and rough breakdown, in delicious pie-chart form, of where your money will go:
But what do you get in return?
Thanks for backing us! You’re the best!
Aside from those kind words (delivered quietly by Calvin), we have all kinds of cool stuff for rewards. See:
So, how long will this thing take?
Here's a rough timeline of what you can expect. We made sure to manage expectations and are planning on beating all of these dates (fingers crossed).
A huge thank you to rjd2 for letting us use his killer song in our video.
Also, big thanks to Grady Britton, the coolest agency in Portland, for letting us shoot in and around their office.
Aaaaand large thanks to the folks over at Princess Awesome, for the immeasurable help and advice. They make super cool stuff for girls; you should go buy some of it.
Lastly, and most importantly, thanks to everyone who is backing us, looking at us, or knows that we exist. We can't do this without you.
Risks and challenges
Supplier Delays: One of the only things that we cannot control in this process is the supply of our materials. Depending upon the volume of our orders, our suppliers may not be able to fulfill everything as quickly as we would like. We have trusted suppliers and work with excellent producers, but you never do know these days...
Shipping: Since we will not be driving out to your home to personally deliver your awesome stuff, and we cannot control the weather, there may be some delays in shipping. Keep your fingers crossed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
