100% Real Carbon Fiber Playing Cards!

Carbon Fiber Playing Cards are a standard 54 Card deck of playing cards that are printed on Real Carbon Fiber.  They are cut to the Standard Poker Size (2.5in x 3.5in).

What is Carbon Fiber?

Carbon fiber is a made from very small strands of carbon that is woven into a fabric.  That fabric is then combined with a resin and placed into a mold to create complex shapes or laid flat to create a sheet.  This combination of Carbon Fiber fabric and resin creates a composite material with a very high strength to weight ratio.  It is often described as being stronger than steel yet lighter than aluminum.

Because of Carbon Fiber's amazing properties it is very popular in Aerospace, Military, and Motorsports. Lots of high end Sports cars use Carbon Fiber parts to reduce the weight of the car without sacrificing strength.

How to Order more than One Deck or Add-On?

You can simply increase your pledge in include another reward level.  If you do this please pledge for the highest reward level first then increase your pledge by the lower reward level amount.  You will then be able to tell me what extra items you wanted when the BackerKit surveys are sent out after the project ends.

Or......

You can wait until the campaign is over and order more decks through BackerKit.  I will be using Backerkit to send out surveys to determine if people want Gloss and/or Matte, Red and/or Blue ect ect.  You can also at that time also add additional decks and pay through BackerKit.

Why we need your help.

Carbon Fiber is an amazingly strong yet light material.  But because it is so amazing it comes with an amazing Price tag unless you have the ability to buy it in large quantities.  So we brought this project to Kickstarter to help raise enough money to buy these in bulk and to be able to provide them on a mass scale.  The dollars you back will go towards buying large quantities of Carbon Fiber, help pay for the tooling / screen prints, as well make the high quality metal cases.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

Our projected ship date is based on reaching our funding goal. As you have seen a lot of projects can be over funded several times over! Not a bad problem to have unless everyone expects to get their rewards at the exact same time. If this project gets over funded several times over then that could push the start of shipping back by weeks or even months in some cases. Not to mention that it could take a lot longer to ship out orders to all the backers. Larger orders require more time to fulfill. So the biggest challenge I see is simply setting an accurate ship date when there is no way of telling how many rewards there are going to be.

With my currently successful project of "Precision Floating Face Dice" I noticed that having several hundred backers caused a delay in collecting survey data. But it was only by a few weeks and wasn't that big of a delay. I am currently shipping out dice orders and should be done before the end of November. At that point I will be able to devote my full attention to this project.

FAQ

  • I have tested the durability of the silk screened images on the cards and here is what I have found. All finishes (matte, gloss) will not simply rub off when rubbing cards against each other.

I then went to a scratch test by using a Quarter to try and scratch the silk screened images. I couldn't get the ink to scratch at all on the the Matte finished cards. I think this was due to the fact that the silk screen really sinks into the slightly rough/porous finish of the matte cards.

The cards with the red or blue accent thread have a gloss type finish and I could get some scratches but I had to really dig in with the quarter to make it happen. The plain gloss cards was slightly easier to scratch but I still had to try hard to make it happen. This is probably because the silk screening does not sink into the gloss finish but is painted on top of it so you can actually feel it a little as you run your fingers over it.

So unless you are deliberately trying to scratch the inks off the images should last a very long time.
