The makers of The Red Dragon Inn are bringing their experience with inns and taverns to a roleplaying game near you!
Update #9 - Premium Options Added!
Last week was phenomenal! Backers pledged more than $5,000 and quickly overtook the first stretch goal. With the weekend's progress underway we've also dominated the second stretch goal!
There are less than two days left now. We are a little under $5,000 away from our final stretch goal. It is going to be tough, but it will be worth it! Everyone will be able to receive a digital copy of our first-level adventure if we can reach the end. We can get there with as little as 100 additional backers. Keep spreading the word and we can make it!
COMPLETE! $12,000 - Condition Cards Unlocked!: The Condition cards will help you track just how intoxicated your characters are getting. Everyone receiving a hardcover copy of the Guide will also receive 6 sets of condition cards, enough for a whole party of adventurers and a little bit extra! If you have a softcover or PDF reward coming your way we will make a Option for you to add them to your backer level.
COMPLETE! $15,000 - Tavern Tiles Unlocked!: We will make print-and-play tavern tiles, allowing players to easily build their own tavern floorplans! These tiles will be made available for free on our website as a downloadable PDF.
$20,000 - “The Cursed Inn” Adventure: If we can reach the $20,000 level, we will send everyone who pledges at any level (even a dollar!) a free PDF of our first-level Pathfinder adventure, "The Cursed Inn."
The Red Dragon Inn: Guide to Inns and Taverns is a 96-page Pathfinder compatible sourcebook - the ultimate toolbox on inns and taverns. It will include new rules for resolving gambling and drinking and be filled to the brim with NPCs, maps, and more.
“Don’t get me wrong, heroes are made in the dungeon. But, it’s not until we share a mug of ale with them that we get learn about who they really are.”
- Cliff Bohm, SlugFest Games President
So what’s the big deal with inns and taverns anyway? Think of your favorite fantasy adventure. Did those heroes meet up at a tavern? (Yep). Did a “simple” night at the inn start a great adventure story? (Thought so). Adventuring goes hand in hand with meeting at, fighting in, and escaping from taverns!
Now lets look at your game. Does your campaign have its Prancing Pony or Inn of the Last Home? Are your taverns a big deal? If they aren’t, you should probably fix that... and we’ve got just the book for you!
The Guide will have all the details you need to add The Red Dragon Inn to your game:
- All the drinks from the card game and even some new ones! Over 20 drinks with their effects, serving sizes, prices and other details are included.
- The Traditions common to The Red Dragon Inn – like Drinking Contests and Gambler’s Grog – and the answer to the question: “Who, in their right mind, orders Dirty Dishwater?”
- The story of founding of The Red Dragon Inn and Warthorn Redbeard, the dwarf who started it all!
But the Guide isn't just about The Red Dragon Inn. It’s about the inn or tavern that you want in your game! Whether you are a player with a retiring hero looking to start their own tavern, or a GM looking for the perfect setting for that great moment, you will find sections on everything from how to build to what to stock in the pantry. How much should you pay for a wooden chair, pewter plate, or barrel of ale? We have that covered. We’ll go in depth on the NPCs who work in these places as well as those who visit. For Game Masters there will be plenty of advice on ways to incorporate inns and taverns into your game with sections on plot hooks, and ways to use inns and taverns to help create the right feel for your campaign or setting.
Check out these writing Samples:
- Amenities and Traditions is a writing sample for the detail content we have written for the Guide. In it you’ll find advice on making your tavern fun for the patrons (your players)!
- Drink Up gives you the full Drinking rules!
- A Sample Page From "On Tap" gives you a peek at what we have planned in the drinks section of the sourcebook.
- The Red Dragon Inn: Appetizer gives you a glance at what we’re planning after the Guide.
Kickstarter gives us an opportunity to gauge the gaming community’s support. Basically, do folks want a guide to inns and taverns? We have been producing and publishing card and board games for ten years, but publishing roleplaying supplements is new to us. We are excited about the Guide but don’t know if anyone else is!
The Kickstarter Funding will be paying for art and printing. About half of the money we raise will go directly to printing and shipping for both the run and the backer rewards. The second half will become the art budget for the Guide. Our fans are very familiar with the quality artwork we have in our games, and we want this project to be no exception!
Besides PDF, softcover, and hardcover editions of the Guide we will also be bringing the craft skills of the SlugFest Games staff to bear. The staff at SlugFest Games are makers. Our president, Cliff Bohm, is a blacksmith. Sam Waller, game designer, works with leather. Both of them truly geek out about fantasy culture and over the past couple of years have brought artifacts from The Red Dragon Inn universe to Gen Con. Your Pledge at the higher end will not only be rewarded with copies of the Guide, but also with awesome handmade artifacts from the world of The Red Dragon Inn!
Check out some of our rewards:
Options are a way for you to customize your pledge and add additional swag to the rewards you will receive for supporting our campaign! All you need to do to earn them is to increase your pledge amount by the cost of the bonus.
For example: if you are a Hardcover Innkeeper and want to add Red Dragon Inn 1 and 2 to your rewards, all you need to do is increase your pledge for $50 to $120. It's that easy!
At the end of the campaign we will be sending out a survey to all our backers to find out which options they have selected.
Because we are hoping to fund this project on the merit of the sourcebook alone! If everyone was scooping up sets of the card game with their pledges we wouldn't know if people backed us because they wanted to see us writing our books or if they just wanted to get our games. We are limiting our other products to just the Greenhorn Level (RDI1) to benefit the people who are brand new to us. We have a handful of Gambling? I'm In! offered because they fit the theme of the rest of our rewards, artifacts from the "real" Red Dragon Inn. We thank you kindly for wanting to buy our games from us, so please head to your local brick and mortar and put some orders down!
