Hilo, Hawaii’s first board game lounge.
The goal of the Slow Your Roll Game Lounge is to elevate the gaming experience for tabletop hobby players in Hawaii. We plan on creating a gaming hub where anyone can spend time playing, creating or teaching games. With an extensive game catalog for both the new and experienced player, Slow Your Roll will be able to appeal to a wide audience in the Hawaii gaming community. We want to share our love of board games, island style!
Slow Your Roll will have a team of knowledgeable, professional staff that will be able to help customers with all their gaming needs. We plan on having quality snacks and drinks in stock, along with some local favorites, to satisfy our players late night needs.
We plan on hosting many different types of events; themed board game nights, card game tournaments and game creator meetups among other types of events.
Slow Your Roll was founded in September 2018 by Anthony Vizzone, an avid gamer in the Hilo gaming community. Originally founded as an online gaming store, Slow Your Roll features island-inspired gaming apparel, along with offering a vast collection of collectibles from games such as Magic the Gathering, Pokemon, YuGiOh and Force of Will on TCGPlayer.
At the beginning of 2019 the business expanded into pop-up events around Hilo, most notably with monthly board game nights at the local university. Slow Your Roll continued to reinvest the money made from their online sales and events and converted it into a sizable board game collection.
After searching for possible location for quite some time, we came across the perfect location in the heart of Downtown Hilo. Our future location will be at 190 Keawe St, next to local favorites Kanpai and the Hilo Town Tavern. The lease has already been signed we're already working on ordering the necessary fixtures for the location. We're hoping to have our grand opening by Q4 2019.
All sorts of events! We want to start having themed board game events for holidays (Star Wars games on May 4th, Werewolf on Halloween, or Love Letter on Valentines Day anyone?) We also want to host more CCG events and even tabletop warfare games.
Here are some of the events we'd like to do:
- "Open House" Night (No cover charge)
- Game Designer Workshops
- Playgroup Mixers (Looking for new people to play with?)
- Game Launches (We'd love to partner with local game creators to debut their games at our lounge)
- Cosplay Night (We know you're out there Hilo!)
On top of all that, the game lounge will be available for players to free play anything from our growing game library. We will have staff on hand to help learn how to play and discover your next favorite board game.
Benefits of membership include:
- Access to Slow Your Roll's board game library and table space (Spend less $$$ to play more board games!)
- Access to PDF Scans of rules for all board games(Learn how to play the game before even coming in!)
- First dibs on limited run product (24 hour notice before public)
- First dibs on limited space events (24 hour notice before public)
- Discounts on most products sold in store
- Name badge (for 1+ Year members)
- Magnetic name badge (for Lifetime Member)
We're always thinking about new ways to provide value to our membership!

Risks and challenges
We understand that a business of this type is potentially very risky and there’s no telling what can happen during the process of opening this location. Even while reviewing these risks, we felt that the time was right to move forward with opening the location.
A huge amount of work has already been put into opening up the game lounge. We’ve already secured the lease, along with insurance, and have begun selecting and purchasing the necessary fixtures to get the location up and running as fast as we can. We’ve already built up a sizable board game library of close to 150 games (we’d like to get to about 300 by opening and settle at around 400-500 titles). We’re finalizing the list of initial branded products that we’ll have out at the grand opening. We’ve already started fulfilling online sales from the new location and are confident that we can generate enough to cover our rent from our online sales alone.
The Kickstarter campaign will help us fill our shelves and help us get our initial stock of the latest titles. The campaign will help us get better tables and chairs and will help us create an overall better location. We need your support to make this the best gaming hub it can be, so please share this campaign with all your friends and don’t forget to pledge!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
