About this project
This was created using the art from Metacell 1, Metacell 2 will be a 3D game.
Update #3 Localization added to Engine
We are in the alpha testing stage of localization for Metacell and the engine, right now supporting English, Spanish and French.
Update #2 Gameplay & Controls 01
A little more detail about how gameplay will work in Metacell 2: it is best described as a top-down shooter. For the majority of gameplay the player will be controlling a top-down view of the Judgment-Class Cruiser, maneuvering it and aiming the reticle in the direction they wish to have their ship face (the ship moves and faces the direction of the reticle at all times). The speed of the reticle is tied to the ship speed; as the ship speed increases so does reticle movement. When the reticle is on an enemy the player will fire their weapon and try to hit and kill the target. Click to Read More
Update #1 Metacritters 01
Today’s update is the Metaleech. These tiny Metacritters are not to be taken lightly; what they lack in size and power they make up for in tenacity and sheer numbers. They are always found in large hunting packs, and an unprepared player will need to be able to eliminate all of them or risk a Metaleech attaching to their ship and draining it of its Energy over time. After Energy has reached 0, however, the Metaleech will begin draining Health. Don’t fret, though: a well-placed barrel roll will send any attached Metaleech flying and disorient them for a short period of time. Click to Read More

Metacell 2? What happened to Metacell 1?
Haha, you got me!
Yes, there is a Metacell 1- you can check it out here: http://productsforrobots.com/games/metacell/
It’s a 2D arcade puzzle shooter; go download it and check it out! It comes with a free 1 hour trial.
"If you’re looking for a unique take on a puzzle game, you can’t really go wrong with Metacell. The twitch shooting mechanics, power ups, and hectic incoming attacks really make this game stand out from the pack. If you let it hook you, you can easily sink 10 hours in, all for five bucks. I say give it a shot." ~ZTGD.com
This was the first game that we worked on and it was exhilarating but stressful. There were a ton of hardships that I won’t go into for fear of being whiny. Don’t get me wrong, we are really proud of the work we put into Metacell 1. We just want Metacell 2 to live up to our vision, and for that to happen we have to be funded.
In short, we want to keep making games. We really enjoyed working together on Metacell 1 and we want to finish the saga, and we honestly can’t do that without the community’s help. And that’s the reason we’re here at Kickstarter.com.
Why do you need money, you bum? Get a job!
What’s with all the hostility? But you do have a great point; we are asking you for your money after all.
Let’s break it down: time = money.
High production value and quality work require a lot of time.
This is our job. The team will be paid living wages, just the minimum hourly income necessary for each team member to meet their basic needs. This amount is well below industry standards for game production, but we consider ourselves artists and just want to create and survive while doing it.
Since everyone always talks about how much money video games take to make, why are you asking for such a “low amount”?
I want this project funded so I am asking for the bare minimum to make our dream a reality.
The arts have always been important to the community for cultural and aesthetic reasons. Today, with the vastness of what the arts have become, a lot has changed. Kickstarter, for example, is a new form of patronage to fund those with a passion and a need. It allows artists to reach out to the very community that inspires them to create.
So once you’re funded, why should I give you more money? Are you just greedy?
No, we’re not greedy.
In fact, here is a break down of what happens with the money in an absurd amount of detail:
144% [$99,360] Mac and Linux release of Metacell 1 and 2 (Tom has to build it into the engine, and that takes a lot of time.)
190% [131,100] Metacell 1 and 2 ports to iOS, Droid mobile and tablet versions designed specifically for the use on the intended device, will be placed into production.
200% [$138,000] The game is $1 forever. Pretty much all sales will pumped into the pre-visualization, pre-production and production of our super secret next project. Here's a sneak peak of some concept art for it.
212% [$146,280] Metacell i and Metacell ii, two exclusive iOS, Droid mobile and tablet versions designed specifically for the use on the intended device, will be placed into production. Again, all sales from Metacell 2 will be going into the development cycle of our super secret next project.
400% [$276,000] The game is free forever, which means we have reached enough to place our super secret next project that would have been our next Kickstarter.com crowd funding campaign (not Metacell 3) into fully funded development!
600% [$414,000] Metacell 2 game source code will become a public domain, allowing anyone to acquire and play around with it, and we ask just one thing: remember the kindness and pass it along! Let’s support and strengthen the community :D. Also, we will begin production on Metacell 3, the final and exciting conclusion of the journey of Dominic and his crew. What we make from 400% to 600% and BEYOND will be poured into the epic conclusion of the Metacell Saga (man I am getting excited!) That game will need a lot of financial support so you will probably see us back on Kickstarter when that time comes asking for the community’s help to finish it off!
What happens after you are successfully funded? How long before we get the pledge rewards and when can we expect the game?
Wow, excellent question!
When we get successfully funded be it 100% or 999%, development starts the very next day. I will be getting everyone together in one place to delve into a spectacular development cycle, which everyone will be able to see as we will be posting a constant stream of Metacell 2 development updates. Since this is a community funded project, the community will be kept in the loop.
As far as pledge rewards go, if you read the descriptions (to the right), there is an estimated time of delivery for each.
As for the release of the game;
Expected Closed Beta: 24 weeks after successful funding (subject to change)
Expected Open Beta: 30 weeks after successful funding (subject to change)
Expected Release: 36 weeks after successful funding (subject to change)
If you pledged $5 or more, you will receive the digital copy through us. We are going to try to get on other digital distributors like Steam, GamersGate, GameStop, Xbox Live Arcade, Playstation Network or Wii Ware if they’ll have us but that will happen later (we’ll have to submit the game and wait for it to be accepted), and we don’t want you to have to wait that long.
I have another question that’s not listed here!
I’d be happy to answer it!
If there’s anything that I neglected to mention here, anything that you’re curious about, just send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org with a subject of “question” and not only will I answer you, I’ll post the question and answer up here so that no one else is left wondering!
