Sphere is being created as a 4 hour performative installation for the historic White-Ellery house in Gloucester, MA. The performance date is August 5th, 2017. The creative team is Sarah Slifer Swift, Director/Choreographer; Kristen Miller, Composer; Andrea Minicozzi, Filmmaker; and several dancers/performers.
Sarah Slifer Swift has created dance performance works and site-specific installations for over 20 years.
In addition to this one-off special "Sphere" event in Gloucester, we believe this work would be an exciting touring piece to the many historic properties around New England.
We are raising funds to develop this work, to give honoraria to the creative team, including all the performers for the live events and in the films.
Risks and challenges
I have been creating large scale performance installations on shoestring budgets for many years. There is nothing in this project not within reach beyond artists getting paid. It is very difficult for artists to get paid anything commensurate with the hours of work they put in. (quite like women and domestic work, in fact.) And there are pleasures in doing the work, of course, and there is demand for the results of the work, but the paycheck is hard to come by. So please, step up for valuing creativity, valuing projects that bring history and contemporary issues together, valuing conversation and experiences you can't get in a store or on the TV. It's worth it!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
