Android users, rejoice!
If you haven’t yet noticed, we hit our first stretch goal this morning: Android support! The extra goodies this stretch goal will bestow upon us are the Android development license in Unity (our fancy-pants development tool of choice) and devices to playtest on to ensure maximum sugary polish and shinyness. And for this, we have only you to thank for your continued support! Not only did we hope that we would be able to eventually publish on Android, but we have gotten tons of messages from cross-fingered cake enthusiasts whose only aspiration in life is to play our game on their preferred mobile platform, and today we get to make their (and our) dream a reality!
How do I pledge for an Android copy of the game?
An Android copy of the game will fall under the same as pledges for iOS. So $5 and additional pledges that include this. We will have an option in the survey for you to opt for iOS or Android. However keep in mind that Google Play does NOT currently have a Gifting or Redeem system in place. We will be using the Amazon App Store to distribute the game with gift codes that you can use as a credit to purchase the game.

This will allow us to make Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake extra awesome! This additional funding will help us accomplish the following goals:
- Absolutely stellar soundtrack! With this increased budget we will be able to give Disasterpeace more freedom to explore an even more amazing soundscape and atmosphere, giving us and you a longer soundtrack and more refined sounding game;
- Larger world to explore and with future updates expanding the world to neighboring islands;
- More MONSTERS!!!
- Expanded marketing budget;
- Increased animation budget so the game moves like a dream;

- Beautiful cinematic cut scenes.
On the distant island of Gogapoe, a land inhabited by monsters and cake, a young boy named Niko is preparing to celebrate his birthday. Tragedy strikes when the nefarious Boogin King and his shadowy monsters, known as Boogins, steal Niko’s birthday cake in an effort to fulfill their insatiable cakelust.
Distraught, Niko goes on a quest to avenge his fallen treat -- and all the treats that have met a similar fate. But, Niko quickly realizes that not all monsters are sugar-hungry jerks - some of them even want to help our hero! Cool!
Niko will adventure all across Gogapoe to meet new friends, fight grumpy Boogins, devour *ahem* rescue all those delicious frosting cubes, and ultimately karate-chop the Boogin King in his cake receptacle!
Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake is heavily influenced by the childhood experiences of the game creators. We strive to capture the nostalgia of playing video games in your best friend’s basement. Remember the days before Wiki? On the playground friends would talk endlessly about secret levels, rumored play modes, and other game-related lore. It was exciting to speculate and sparked creativity. We carry these sentiments with us as adults and game developers and strive to recreate them for a new generation.
Visually the game is inspired by Japanese pop art, Tokidoki, and cartoon shows like Adventure Time. The game combines these influences with a subtle, retro, 16-bit aesthetic, without relying on pixel art.
We’re also excited to announce that Disasterpeace will be contributing his talents to compose our custom soundtrack. You may know his amazing work from games like FEZ, Shoot Many Robots, and the upcoming Bit.Trip Runner 2.
Gameplay is primarily focused around environmental puzzle solving, akin to classic dungeon style puzzle games such as The Legend Of Zelda and Little Nemo: The Dream Master. We are expanding on old school gameplay mechanics and transforming them into something new. You’ll need to use the problem-solving powers of your mind and the skills of your monster allies to conquer each mind bending level. Freeze, scorch, corrode, dig, teleport, and even move across outer dimensions on your cake-fueled journey of vengeance.
- An expansive world of mind-boggling levels to explore and conquer;

- Unlock and find many secrets and unique items, some of which enhance your monsters' abilities;

SleepNinja is a game development company created by a group of friends who grew up with the birth and boom of the video game generation. We endeavor to recreate the nostalgia of our youth while continuing to experiment with new ideas.
We are a talent-filled stew of professionals who come from backgrounds in game development, software engineering, online advertising, design, music, and animation. Each member of SleepNinja is accustomed to working on projects with strict deadlines and modest budgets; however, we are also dedicated to meeting our set goals without sacrificing quality. Video games are our lifeblood and there’s nothing we’d rather be doing than making them.
For us, gaming is an escape and an experience just as powerful as film or literature, but we feel that the mobile gaming market has more to offer. It is our belief that mobile games can be just as immersive and meaningful as their console and PC counterparts, and we endeavor to make this a reality.
Up until this point everything has been self-funded. We do however need your help to pay for overhead costs such as:
- Engine, platform, and additional licensing costs;
- Testing devices such as current and previous gen iPads, iPhones, and other devices which will allow us to make sure the game works amazingly on every supported device;
- A music and sound design budget;
- Third party plug-ins and extensions; and
- A marketing budget.

A few backers suggested that we have add-ons to the current tiers where backers could give additional funds to their current pledge and receive additional items. We think this is a great idea so here is the info!
To include an Add-On with your pledge, please do the following: Visit this page and select the Manage Your Pledge button. Increase your pledge in the Pledge Amount box by the Add-On cost (see below). DO NOT update the tier you are currently pledged at, or you will then need to add the cost of you Add-Ons to the amount of the NEW tier.
When the Kickstarter campaign concludes you will receive a survey that will allow you to indicate that you paid for these Add-Ons.

Risks and challenges
Let’s be honest, making a game is a huge undertaking. And making a GOOD game is even more challenging. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but we are extremely dedicated – nights and weekends included! We are on the path to something wonderful and want to share this game with you and the world.
