Slant'd sparks meaningful conversations about Asian American identity by empowering real people to share real stories.
Amidst swirling conversations about our childhoods, parents, partners, and struggles, a group of friends were inspired to surface the real, amazing, and untold stories of Asian Americans.
Slant'd is a new print magazine that celebrates Asian American culture and shines a spotlight on #badasians: game changers who are shattering stereotypes and breaking through the bamboo ceiling.
Slant'd encourages self-discovery as told by a diverse generation just trying to answer the question, "Who am I?" By flipping a stereotype on its head, Slant'd aims to challenge racial norms, encourage open-mindedness, and explore what it means to be Asian American today.
What to expect from Issue #1
Slant’d brings to life emotionally complex issues about race and identity through personal storytelling in the form of poetry, short stories, essays, illustration, photography, and more.
Issue One theme: BEGINNINGS
A beginning can symbolize many things. Whether it's experiencing something for the first time, finding yourself in an unexpected turn of events, or reflecting upon a moment of self-discovery, beginnings is about the beauty and power of open vulnerability and introspection.
Our inaugural issue features the incredible work of over 20 contributors who aren't afraid to provide a refreshingly candid take on contemporary Asian American culture.
Issue One Contributors: Casey Sweeney, Chloe Kojima, Dan Xin, Derek Lu, Emily Luan, Felicia Liang, Gary Yeh, Jamie Li, Jason Lam, Jeanne Jalandoni, Jenevieve Ting, Loretta Chao, Lori Bailey, Luke Cheng, Mengwen Cao, Sruthi Sadhujan, Tria Chang, and more!
We are committed to producing a high-quality print magazine whose production quality matches that of the stories inside. To that end, our goal is to produce a work of art that readers can proudly display in their homes.

What people are saying
"I'm excited about Slant'd the same way I'm excited about Wonder Woman. I cried during every battle scene because I was in complete awe of how women were portrayed versus how I was used to seeing women in film. Slant'd is going to finally tell Asian American stories through the lens of Asian Americans: authentic, multi-dimensional and representative. I look forward to being inspired, shocked, motivated, and curious about all the people and ideas I'll be exposed to that I normally wouldn't have in the mainstream media today." — Jaclyn Fu, Founder of Pepper Bra
"I'm stoked on Slant'd because I can tell it's being driven by ambitious people that are on the way to building a revolutionary platform for Asian Americans." — Ben Trinh, Founder of An Urban Soirée
"I love how Slant'd uses the incredible power of art and creative storytelling to share the complexities that comes with talking about race and identity. It's rare to see the Asian American experience accurately represented today, so I can't wait to read and learn from all the contributors in this first issue and beyond." — Felicia Liang, Artist, Illustrator, and Creator of #100DAYSIANS
Why we need your support
Slant'd is a completely volunteer-run magazine. We're lucky to have a passionate and talented team of staff and contributors who are dedicated to changing the conversation about Asian American identity. We need your support to help cover the production costs.
Slant'd has been a true labor of love. A HUGE thank you to the full squad of hilarious and hardworking #badasians behind this project.
Special thanks to Lina Yeh (Video Director), Christina Yoon (Video Editor), and Hannabi Creative for helping us make video magic!
Risks and challenges
We're currently in the final design stages and the last step is taking the magazine to print. Provided that we receive full funding, there should be no problem sending out your rewards. If, however, we fall short of our funding goal, then production will be put on hold until we secure another source of funding. Any delays in production will be communicated ASAP and we will do everything that we can to bring Slant'd into your hands by the end of August 2017.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
