Finalised Wave Banks + MODALapp Screenshots

This week we'd like to give you an update on two different elements of the development of CRAFTsynth 2.0.

Firstly, we have now finalised the oscillator waveform banks. CRAFTsynth 2.0 contains 40 waveforms arranged in 8 banks of 5, where in each bank you can morph between each of the waveforms creating seamless transitions through combinations of waves. Here is the finalised list of banks with brief descriptions of each:

1. Virtual Analogue - A standard set of audio waveforms

2. 002 Bank 1 - A bank of waveforms from the Modal 002 synthesiser

3. Math - A bank of mathematically-generated waveforms

4. Polygon - A bank of waveforms based on polygons

5. Modal 1 - A bank of various Modal-curated waveforms

6. Formant - A bank of waveforms derived from various formants and vocal sounds

7. 002 Bank 2 - A second bank of waveforms from the Modal 002 synthesiser

8. Modal 2 - A second bank of various Modal-curated waveforms

Secondly, the development team has been making great progress with integrating CRAFTsynth 2.0 into MODALapp - the optional companion software editor for the Modal CRAFT and SKULPT devices, available for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android.

Here are some screenshots of the CRAFTsynth 2.0 integration within MODALapp, showing the main editor page, the live page, and the patch librarian page:

We’ll be back next week with another update.

The Modal Team.

I second YaWha's suggestion. Please use actual units in stead of meaningless 0 - 127 values in the user interface! My Kurzweil k2000 is the only synth I own which has this, and the units make it much easier to actually understand and remember what I'm doing and what is happening when manipulating a parameter.

Will we be able to save full banks in order to share them with other CraftSynth 2 owners if we wish?

      Hi YaWha,
      That's a good question.
We display parameter values as MIDI values on the interface due to relying on MIDI CCs (and their resolution) to communicate between the app and the hardware. As some of the control’s internal values are scaled non-linearly the time or frequency steps corresponding to one MIDI value increment would not always line up to exact values, and as some of these scaled increments are quite small displaying a truncated version of these values could cause some difficulty in seeing smaller changes. Because of this, we feel it would be detrimental to the clarity and usability of the interface.

Hi Buyerito, we previously put out a video demoing four of the banks that you can see here - https://www.youtube.com/watch….

Hi, the midi values are 0-127 there in that screenshot.
Will you change to use actual units? E.g. Hz for Oscillators and Filters, Seconds for Envelopes...
      (Same for automation units)

      Thanks guys..

Hi Ben, Yes - both devices will be able to connect to MODALapp at the same time, in which they will appear as separate tabs in the app.

Cool! Some videos demoing the banks would be awesome.

      Hey Modal,

I’m super excited for this synth. I’m loving getting into the Skulpt, this is gonna add a new dimension to that sound for sure. One question though about the editor. Will I be able to run the editor for both synths at the same time?

      Cheers
