About this project
The Proof seeks take the iPod nano farther than ever before by integrating waterproof engineering and bluetooth technology.
For the past two years, San Francisco based mobile audio startup, Boombotix, has been reinventing portable audio devices by fusing urban vinyl toy design with cutting edge speaker design to make Boombots. The commitment to creating the next generation of portable audio products has given birth to an entirely new piece of hardware technology.
The iPod Nano is debatably one of the best digital music players for fitness, sport, and overall portability. Recently, the iPod Nano's miniaturization has opened the door for the device to be used as a watch as well. Products like the Lunatik and Tiktok have paved new ground for watch design by seamlessly integrating the iPod nano into an attractive watch. Boombotix looks to expand upon this horizon by integrating new technology to help make the iPod Nano a functional day-to-day timepiece.
The Proof is constructed for durable polyurethane coated with a thick silicone wrapping. The touch screen on the iPod Nano retains full functionality with the use of an ultra thin polycarbonate lens. The strap on the Proof is made of ultra thick, yet flexible silicone. With this engineering, we've managed to create an IP68 grade seal to protect the nano up to a 3m depth. With The Proof, say goodbye to water damage or impact casualties and say hello to doing everything you love with the convenience and control of your music right on your wrist.
There are three adapters that can be fit to the Proof. Each one performs a unique function. The purple adapter offers complete protection and minimal size for users that look to use the Nano as simple waterproof watch without audio access. The Green adapter allows you to access the auxiliary jack on the nano to use with headphones or speakers (note: the green adapter does not provide the full IP68 protection) The blue adapter has a built in bluetooth transmitter that will allow you to pair with most bluetooth audio devices so that you can enjoy the freedom of wireless connectivity. SLEEK.
The new iPod Nano OS has 18 different watch faces built in. You can literally have two watch faces for every day of the week...and then some. All this is accessed with a tap of your finger. The iPod Nano makes an extremely fashionable and functional timepiece, so we see no reason not to make it a day-to-day accessory. The future of the iPod Nano is to remain untold, but there is no doubt that to successfully transition this product as a watch from novelty to practicality, the Nano needs to foster help from ideas like The Proof to continue evolving its function and application.
The Boombotix team thanks everyone for checking this project out and we hope to have your support on investing in this technology.
Both the purple adapter and the bluetooth adapter maintain the waterproof design. At this point the headphone input is not "Proofed" but it maybe be something to look at down the road.
The production model will likely be a little bit darker than the prototype you see in the video. Down the road, we certainly hope we can add to the line and make more colors.
