Triumph of Death: 28mm Renaissance skeleton army miniatures cast in white metal for gamers and collectors, by Skull & Crown Stratagem, Inc.
Every idea or mad scheme starts with a backstory...
The goal of Triumph of Death is to create a line of Renaissance-inspired, 28mm white metal undead skeletal miniatures for collectors and for use in RPGs and tabletop wargames. Based upon period art from Hans Holbein's Dance of Death ("Totentanz"), Renaissance, wood block prints from the 1500’s, we are creating skeleton Landsknechts that have that old world and Oldhammer feel.
With the help of sculptor Drew Day Williams, who shared my passion to create a range of 28mm skeletons in the vein of Renaissance artists like Holbein, Dürer and Peter Breugel, we Kickstartered the original set of Triumph of Death (ToD) range of miniatures, but knew that we would not be able to do everything in one go. Death (and gamers) always demand more...
Your armies can be legion!
Thanks to backers like you, the first Triumph of Death Kickstarter was a smashing success, but we could only produce so many troop types and command figures. Many previous backers requested other troop types to round out their armies and I heard the clarion call! This is where you come in - with your help we can expand the ToD line of miniatures into a fully realized selection of infantry, cavalry and artillery models. You can command legions of the damned (damned smart looking, that is).
The Pledge Guide: Knowing your way around Death - pack options
There are 5 options for skeleton army units and 3 command packs. Each option is based on one of the following:
- Infantry = 10 miniatures per pack
- Cavalry = 5 horses and riders per pack
- Artillery = 1 cannon and 3 crew per pack
- Command = 3 miniatures per pack
For all pledges other than the Collection of Death, you simply mix and match the units that you want. By popular demand, I also added in the option to pick units and command from the first Triumph of Death Kickstarter (ToD - Classic), which can be used as your pack choices.
You love them - we love them! Triumph of Death II has some sweet Stretch Goals waiting to be summoned from the depths. All Stretch Goals are designed to be freebies for all who back a pledge that states "Eligible for Stretch Goals".

As we get some of the greens sculpted, we'll post them here.
Unit Scale Stuff
It's always important, especially these days, to know how your miniatures measure up. When designing my ToD line, I knew that they would be going up against many of my human troops and mixed in with undead from other manufacturers, so we've made them to a scale that would fit in well with most companies.
Triumph of Death miniatures are designed by yours truly (Thomas Foss) of Skull & Crown Stratagem, Inc. I've been designing miniatures and games for over three decades, and this project has been in my mind and heart for a long while. Sculpting comes courtesy of the talented and a devilishly handsome Drew Day Williams (Satyr Art Studio) who has also done work for WizKids, Dwarven Forge, and Privateer Press - to name a few. Steve Phillips (Firing Line Miniatures) has been my chief caster and mold maker for almost two decades, and is taking on the title of "Master Caster" of these miniatures. This time around I've also had the great pleasure and relief of having help in laying out the Kickstarter by the talented Kawe Weissi-Zadeh of Westfalia miniatures fame. It's like having a bespoke tailor! All miniatures are designed, sculpted and cast In the USA.
Risks and challenges
Risks and challenges
This is my fourth Kickstarter, with a seasoned crew of sculptors and casters- so I'm pretty well acquainted with the processes and where the hiccups can happen, and am constantly working to mitigate these factors before they come up. This will be the first time I use Backerkit, so the time to get the surveys out may take a bit longer depending on the learning curve. That's why I'm giving this Kickstarter a bit more time to get rewards out.
Most of the models of this Kickstarter, including the initial Stretch Goals, have already been sculpted, with master mold castings vetted and approved for the first set. My caster, Firing Line miniatures makes master molds from RTV instead of vulcanized rubber which greatly mitigates any chances of the master models getting wrecked in the process.
Other than things outside of my control (like a postal strike or horrible weather) we should be good to go! Remember that Kickstarter does not unlock funds until 3 weeks after the Kickstarter succeeds, so that adds to the time I can get models out to you.
PLEASE NOTE: These miniatures are not toys and are not recommended for children under 14 years of age. These miniatures may contain lead which may be harmful if chewed or swallowed.
All miniatures are supplied unpainted, except in noted pledges.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
