About this project
About This Project:
Who would like to help bring the Sketchtravel experience to the public as a series of museum exhibitions?
Sketchtravel, one of the world’s most unique collaborative art projects, traveled more than 75 thousand miles around the world to connect 71 internationally acclaimed artists and helped build five libraries in five third world countries so far.
This amazing project is traveling once again, now as a museum show!
We plan to display professional quality reproductions of all 70 pages of exceptional artwork created for the original sketchbook as well as some behind-the-scenes images and artwork to educate museum patrons about this magical project.
Our first goal is to raise enough to pay for the exhibition at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco from September 2012 through February 2013. If our earnings surpass that, the show will travel to Japan in 2013!
Please note this Kickstarter project, Sketchtravel Museum Project is NOT a charity project. All the funds collected through this will go towards potential museum exhibitions in San Francisco, Tokyo, Kyoto and beyond.

Thank you Gifts: We made several special Sketchtravel goods to make this dream exhibit possible!
******although it isn't stated, Cartoon Art Museum will issue two tickets for any backer who donated more than $10!
Andrew Farago, the curator of Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco, believes this unprecedented art project must be exhibited in public as a museum form. Since the original sketchbook cannot be dismantled, 70 high quality giclee prints will be created for this exhibition. These prints will be as close as possible to the original artworks, offering levels of detail that are not as visible in the upcoming Sketchtravel publication. The Cartoon Art Museum also wants to include some behind-the-scenes artwork and photographs as part of the exhibition.
The cost of the 70 high quality giclee prints and frames is, thanks to substantial discounts from suppliers, approximately $12,000. Taking into consideration other expenses that may arise, we have set our initial fundraising goal at $13,000. Upon meeting that level and funding our exhibition for the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco, our next goal is to prepare the exhibition for travel to venues in Japan, which will cost about another $10,000 including the fabrication of customized shipping crates and insurance. Any funds raised beyond the $25,000 level will support the Sketchtravel at Museums Project.
Thanks to the generosity of the artists involved with the project, we have a wonderful collection of exclusive thank you gifts for our supporters. Please consider backing this once-in-a-lifetime project!
