About this project
It all started on my parent's driveway.
I was lucky to live on a hill where that driveway was long and steep enough for me to discover the joys of gravity. Way before the X-Games and Red Bull, I was building and riding all manner of craft down that hill. It was an obsession that I never got over.
I've been manufacturing, selling, promoting, riding and racing Street Luge and Classic Luge for nearly 2 decades. I can't understand, as I hurtle down the track on my back experiencing that adrenalin charged sensation, why everybody doesn't want to Street Luge.
At 53 years old, I find I'm enjoying Street Luge more than ever. The problem is street luge is not very popular these days as downhill skateboarding dominates the inclined pavement. This Kickstarter project is all about bringing Street Luge back.
Using the power of the internet and Public Access Television, I hope to distribute the second run of Gravity Sport University, a show about Gravity Sports such as street luge and downhill skateboard.
The first run of Gravity Sport University was an amateurish attempt at a Public Access Television series. While I enjoyed making the show and it was picked up by a number of other Public Access TV stations, I felt it was not entertaining enough to attract viewers.
The next 8 episodes of Gravity Sport University will be different.
I will select an inexperienced rider, outfit them with all the necessary gear and teach them to be a street luge racer. Viewers will follow along as I personally train this new pilot everything they'll need to know about Street Luging, put them through various training drills and help them to gain the skills and experience to compete. The last episode will be an actual street luge race where I'll send my new rider down the hill to test all that training.
The problem, as always, is money. A new Street Luge racer means: a new street luge, protective gear, track fees, transportation and accommodations. Since this is a Public Access Television program, I won't be looking for sponsorship from gear companies and there will be no "promotional consideration". The entire project will be funded through this Kickstart and MY POCKETS.
Additionally I'll need to assemble a camera crew, seek out editing help, get some original music and wrap it all up into a nice entertainment package.
The show will be available to Public Access Television stations across the US. Public Access stations will able to download the show for less than a dollar an episode thru PEG Media, a media distribution platform for Public Access Television. Gravity Sport University will also be packaged as a web series and be available for viewing On Demand.
My Kickstarter Project is more than just a TV series about street luging, its about getting people involved in the sport. Its about getting YOU into the sport. The money generated here will fund more than the production of the next 8 episodes of Gravity Sport University, the real mission is to bring attention back to the exciting sport of Street Luge.
As I stated, I manufacture and sell the Noreaster Street Luge and the Skateluge USA Classic Luge. The only way to get one of these gravity powered products is directly from ME. You can learn more about all of my Gravity Sport gear at http://www.skateluge.com/
The success of Gravity Sport Universty: the Street Luge Class will lead to more GSU classes like Downhill Skateboard, Classic Luge and Drift Trike.
We can't go downhill without a push... Follow Me Downhill.
Risks and challenges
The Gravity Sport University show needs funding. Without funding, I will NOT make this show happen.
Since it clearly depends on the talent I choose to train, I cannot make promises that the new street luge pilot won't quit, not get injured or even won't die. There... I said it.
ALL rewards will still be delivered and the 8 episodes of GSU will be created whether or not my trainee completes the program. The format of the show may be altered to accommodate this possibility.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
