We at SK8 KAMP believe that every city needs a Skatepark. Our mission is to bring one to Black Rock City, for our 6th year in a row at Burning Man 2016! This year, we are building SK8 KASTLE, a metal-framed (MOOP Free) ramp that is designed to last for many years.
Here are a few photos of what we built previous years:
This year we are AGAIN joining forces with Dustfish, Sextant and Fourth Eye camps to create Dustfish Village with our INSANE placement at 7 & Esplanade. We'll be right next to Center Camp in the middle of everything. Think the 24/7 Sk8 sessions you've come to love and expect with the addition of zip lines, tesla coils and nightly live entertainment from our sister camps.
We like to mix up the park design each year to try out new things. This year, in addition to our existing pieces, we are also building a new metal-framed ramp and will have interactive flame effects built into the ramps!
Every year an incredible group of skaters, builders, artists, enthusiasts and friends all join forces to create a special oasis that we call SK8 KAMP.
We build SK8 KAMP to be very different than your average skatepark. We encourage everyone to try out the park no matter if you have skated your whole life or have never stepped on a skateboard. We are happy to see beginners trying it out and skaters at KAMP will give pointers and lessons to help anyone experience the love and community of skateboarding.
SK8 KAMP is open for skating 24/7 for the entire week.
We say 'Ride anything and have fun' so whatever type of wheeled apparatus you want to try out on our ramps, we welcome.
Like always, we will plan to provide spare skateboards of all shapes and sizes, pads, helmets, and even shoes, if you decide to wear those.
Metal-frame legacy ramp: $7,000
Ramp Transportation: $3,000
Forklift Rental: $1,000
Fire Effects: $1,000
Sound System Repair: $650
We are asking for your help to make our skate dreams a reality! This Kickstarter only covers part of the cost to build out our camp this year and the rest will be raised through fundraising events and camp dues.

Risks and challenges
This is our 6th year building SK8 KAMP and we're confident we have the skills, determination, and experience to build it. But, there are inherent risks in the coordination to make everything happen for SK8 KAMP. Trucks could break down, organizers could get sick or injured, weather conditions could prohibit the transport and set-up of the ramps on the Playa as well as fundraising for all the associated costs of this all so we can finally get our ramps to the Playa.
Then there's also the inherent risk of injury for our sk8ers and participants too... but we've all read the back of our tickets, right? Every Sk8er and burner knows that they participate at their own risk. Hey, sometimes that's half the fun!
Here's an injury count from our previous years (don't worry, we take good care of our injured Sk8ers with our Kamp wheel chair and ice packs):
2011 - 1 throat hit/injured by skateboard, 1 lip split open, 3 sprained ankles, 232 bruises
2012 - 1 broken arm, 1 injured shoulder, 1 broken leg, 543 bruises
2013 - 1 broken arm, 3 twisted ankles, 367 bruises
2014 - 1 broken arm, 1 sprained ankle, 1 sliced lip, 162 bruises
2015 - 1 broken tail bone, 1 torn ACL, 15 cut knees, 257 bruises
- (31 days)
