Awesome idea! I remember a Stellar Games project back in the day (cough... A.C.E. Agents... cough) doing something similar and it was a blast. I've always wondered why more games don't do something similar because it is a cool concept.
Anyway, its a great idea and a fun way to bring the reader into that world. Keep up the awesome work because I (and I'm sure everyone else) can't hardly wait!
Great idea. Makes them come to life a lot more than just having them as sample characters. And you can still drop them into any generic DF setting. I hope there are going to be illustrations of each one beside the one in the booklet.
"We created 15 ready-to-play characters -- most of whom will appear..."
Not all? Then may I humble suggest ones not appearing be posted on the Steve Jackson Forums with a link to them here on the kickstarter, (or better yet, just add a "mini-bonus PDF only for the kickstart backers wcontaining just the bonus characters."
My thought being since they are already being created and if there is not enough room for all of them to not be printed, better to post them or prnt them in a mini-pdf and have the DF players get more use out of them, rather than just let them waste away, unused and forgot.
As for my self as a busy game master, I can never have too many "Official" GURPS characters, ready to play. Additionally they really are the best examples for new players.
Personally I was often inspired and I probably learned a lot more about character design, what works best and how to tie character concepts together better using the GURPS Rogues, Villains, Warriors, Wizard and sample characters in the old world books.
Not trying to create more work for you Sean, but if someone takes the the time to create, that creation should have a chance to fulfill its role, and a GRUPS characters are generally too good not to be played and at least have a chance to make their mark on the game.
On a more personal note. Hang in there Sean, we all go through rough patches in life, and we all have to stumble around in the dark to get to the light at some point. I am pulling for you. I am sending you, your wife, and your family positive thoughts and my best wishes.
That sounds wonderful! That's a great way to add readability and immersion.
Very cool, Sean! Looking forward to having that boxed set in my twitchy hands! But, also, my best wishes to you and yours. - Ben
