Update 23: Launch!

Posted by Matthew Wieteska (Collaborator)

Here we go - the Zombies, Run! Board Game companion app is now available for download on iOS and Android devices! Head over to for instructions on how to download and set up your app.

This is a really exciting day for us, and I want to take a moment to thank every one of you for all of your enthusiasm and support over the past year as we took our scrappy little prototype and turned it into the gorgeous, ambitious, unique game you’re about to sit down to enjoy. We couldn’t have done this without your support, and it was really special for us to have you all cheering us on through all the hard work.

The team that made the Zombies, Run! Board Game is a small one - just two full-time and four part-time staff - and the end result is covered in the fingerprints of each member of that team. I’m immensely proud to work with all of them, and I hope you love this game as much as we do.

Playing the game but it's called "testing" when we do it

With a team so small and a game so ambitious, it’d be unheard of for there to be no bugs or glitches in our first release. That’s why we want you to know how committed we are to supporting this game in the future, and how we’re working to rectify any problems that might come up.

Firstly, we’re already close to releasing our first update for the game, which includes a few small quality of life improvements and bits of polish that our early testers requested. Indeed, by the time you read this, version 1.2 might already be out! This update is the first of many - we love this game, and we want to make sure it lives up to its full potential, whether that’s through fixing bugs or making improvements to make the experience smoother.

We’ve also made sure we can update the game without you losing your progress through the game. This means we can keep on tinkering and polishing while you just need to worry about escaping those zombies!

Whatever happens, we’re fully committed to making sure this game lives on and continues to improve for a long time to come. If you come across an issue with the game, please send an email to with “ZRBG” in the subject line. While version 1.2 will be our last update before the holidays, we’ll be straight back into action in the New Year, ready to give you all the help you need to survive the apocalypse.

Enough from me. I can hear the ravening hordes banging at your door. Get to Time to run!

Hi Everyone! Thanks for all your reports this morning about issues getting the app to run on newer versions of Android. We've tracked down the root cause of this issue and will have a fix in an update coming soon. In the meantime, you can get the game to by following these instructions:

      1) Open Settings > Apps & notifications > App info > ZRBG.
      2) Open 'Permissions'.
      3) Enable the 'storage' permission.
      4) Restart the ZRBG app.

The app should now start as intended.

Moving forward, if you have any further technical problems with the app, please email, as the support inbox is monitored more actively than these comments, so your reports will be seen more quickly.

Also having problems with Android. Pixel phone, latest updates. It seems to hang indefinitely at the blue splash screen.

Hi Helen, and anyone else facing this issue on an iPhone - please toggle your phone to Ring mode rather than Silent mode. You should then hear the audio through the speakers. Otherwise, on Silent mode, you'll only be able to hear on your headphones!

We'll address this in a future app update. As we've said, we're committed to supporting this game, so please do help us find and iron out issues like this. :)

Hi @Helen - there won't be any sound until you start the game and the first story clip begins playing. If you've checked this and have ensured the volume on your phone is turned up, please email support at with details of what's happened and we'll try to figure it out as soon as possible. Thanks!
