Spring Update for The Sioux Chef Kickstarter

Happy Spring Kickstarter backers! 

I'm sorry we haven't posted since the end of January! Our team got T-shirts and stickers out to everyone through the mail. If you didn't get yours, please email us at info@sioux-chef.com. We completed the series of cooking classes with Sean Sherman, but I know a few people didn't sign up that contributed at that amount. We can still do another class this summer, so also email if you would like to see that, and we will keep doing it until everyone has completed a class! 

Our search for the restaurant space continues! We are working with teams from both Minneapolis and St Paul to find a building that will accommodate our needs. We have people that are working to help. There are some really exciting leads, but they will take time. We wish we could say the restaurant will be open this fall, but that's unlikely. To keep our vision the way we want it, we need to be patient. Please know that we appreciate your patience as well, and we understand that it can be frustrating. That said, we are working long hard weeks to get everything set up and we look forward to sharing it with you!! 

We have been working on all the facets of what we need to move forward with the aspect of a restaurant as a culinary training center. An education aspect of teaching the fundamentals of the indigenous food systems is going to take a lot of resources. We will need to provide scholarships for people, and have extra space for training. Because of that, we decided to launch a non-profit called NāTIFs (North American Traditional Indigenous Food Systems). Sean and I have been working with a team of geniuses to figure out how to get all the paperwork done correctly to submit. We have a board of directors set up, and will be calling our first meeting soon to get all the paperwork in so that we can procure funds to supplement our vision. 

The cookbook is launching October 10th, so we will release an announcement soon for that big party. We are planning the book tour right now for next fall and winter, so look for that. Those of you that purchased a book, and live near MSP, we will have your books at the party or possibly before! And to everyone else we'd love to meet every single one of you as soon as we can! 

Oh and yesterday, we were surprised to open up the City Pages to find that we were featured in the Best Of 2016 for Best Kickstarter. YOU DID THAT! Thank you!!

      Thank you for the update. I am still very excited for this restaurant to become a reality and for the soft opening reward. It is completely understandable that this would take time to complete. The silence made me nervous and you have succeeded in easing those nerves, thank you. I only ask that you provide restaurant updates for time to time going forward. I do follow you on social so any place you update is fine with me.

      Do you have updates on when the soft opening may occur? I was curious about following your progress.

      I think that most people understand that this process could take longer than anticipated. Getting it right is more important that getting it fast. It's when things go silent that people get anxious.
