50 Exotic and 50 Enchanted weapons, in one beautiful book!
That's what this campaign is about. Your support will fund art, production, and print costs for backer rewards. This book is being produced and released for the fifth edition game mechanic.
Each weapon is fully illustrated in the style of sketchbook in keeping with the narrative throughout the journey. Yes, this means there are 100 pages of illustrated weapons in the book!
Narrative text is in 12 point font for ease of reading and to best simulate natural handwriting while maintaining legibility.

- An enchanted example of each weapon is also described within as the legendary version.
- Each legendary weapon is of Unique rarity. There is only one!
Game mechanic data for these enchanted weapons is provided for easy use.

All backer rewards for this campaign will be fulfilled through Drivethrurpg.com.
PDF copies: All backer rewards for this campaign include a PDF copy of the book. The PDF will be printable, to allow game masters and players the opportunity to print off individual pages for game play use.
Print on Demand Codes: The print on demand codes will allow you to order the print copy version of the book. You will pay the cost of printing the book, without additional mark up, directly to drivethrurpg.com and then pay the exact shipping costs. (This allows for an overall lower cost to backers, and helps to expedite the fulfillment process).
All backer levels with print on demand codes are eligible for the social and stretch goals (see below). All POD codes will be good for a period of one year from the day of transmission, so you will have plenty of time to decide whether you want the hard cover (if we meet stretch goal) or the variant, kickstarter backer exclusive cover (if we meet the social goal), or all three!
Signed copies: I will be signing up to 100 copies of The Steel Road. Signed copies will be hard cover if we meet our first stretch goal, and will be the kickstarter backer exclusive cover if we meet the social goal. The signed copies backer rewards include shipping within the United States. Outside the US, additional shipping costs are added ($20). I am sorry for the inconvenience but international shipping is expensive.
Personalized / sketched copies: Zachary Viola will be creating custom sketches in the interior of up to 15 copies. Zack will create a pen and ink sketch on the interior of the book's cover specifically for you! Choose the subject you wish illustrated and he'll create it for you. Do keep in mind the dimensions of the page. He will also be signing those illustrations. This backer level includes shipping. ADDENDUM: as per our first update, this backer level now includes an original sketch from the book! Choice of sketches is determined by order of pledging.
Book dedication: The backer's name and the names of up to nine other people of the backer's choice will be featured in the dedication of the book in both PDF and Print copy editions (all print versions). This backer level includes shipping. The backer at this level will also receive a signed copy of the book, with an original illustration (done in pen and ink by Zachary Viola) on the inside cover. This backer will also receive an original sketch from the book. Choice of sketches is determined by order of pledging. Limit One.
All backers have the option of having their name entered in the backer credits of the book. We will NOT include profanity or hate speech in our backer credits. You must respond to the backer survey within 14 days in order to have your name make it into the book.
Backers are responsible for any and all taxes and tariffs levied on their rewards.
Here they are ~ Stretch Goals!!
This campaign is designed to fund the project, be a great value to the backers, and be fulfilled rapidly and with as little potential for error as possible. So the stretch goals are easy to manage, easy to fulfill, and are a REALLY great value!
$2000 ~ If we reach this level of pledge support each backer who pledged at a level for a print on demand (POD) code will receive a second code which will allow a hard cover version of their book to printed (Remember, with these codes you pay the print cost and shipping through Drivethrurpg.com). Those backers receiving signed or sketched copies will receive hard cover copies instead of soft covers!
This means that reaching $2000 in support will give each backer that receives a POD reward code for both soft and hard cover versions.
$10,000 ~ Additional Content! Fiction by Russell Zimmerman! You read that right everyone! By reaching $10,000 in funding, The Steel Road will include a bit of short fiction from noted author Russell Zimmerman. That content will be approximately 3000 words, so we'll see a great short story added in. See his biography below!
$15,000 ~ At this level, the book will have an additional section added, detailing the merchant caravan, it's key npcs (4 in all), and a selection of story hooks for incorporating the caravan into your campaigns.
$30,000 ~ Wow! This is it, the final stretch goal. Thanks to all of you we are adding information, stats, and sketches for six of the noted characters from the book. One character from each of the regions covered in the book will be included.
Social Goal ~
I've seen social goals popping up in several campaigns of late and I think they are a great idea. So for this campaign I have implemented the following social goal (I hope you'll share the link to this campaign to help us reach it).
1000 Backers ~ A variant cover, for kickstarter backers only, will be created. Each backer who pledged at a level with a POD code as a backer reward, will receive an additional POD code for this variant cover. Please remember that you will pay for the printing and shipping as with any other POD code reward. Additionally, all backers receiving signed copies or copies with original sketches will receive this exclusive version for those rewards.
To help us reach this milestone, please do share the link to this campaign on social media. Help us spread the word, to put this great resource into the hands of gamers everywhere.
The book's original draft written, art is done, and final formatting and editing is underway. Fulfillment should only take a few days for the digital rewards, so expect your codes to be sent to you very quickly after the funds clear from Kickstarter. Signed copies will take approximately three weeks to be printed, shipped to me, signed, and then shipped to you. Rewards with original sketches will require approximately three weeks as well. Please note the fulfillment schedule for signed copies reflects this added time.
To facilitate a rapid and accurate fulfillment, please do make certain that you correctly enter your email and name data in the backer rewards survey. If you pledge for signed copies, please carefully enter your address as mistakes can seriously delay delivery.
Who we are:
W.S. "Sam" Quinton ~ Author: Writer, game designer, and publisher. I developed the concept for The Steel Road, developed the weapon attributes, and somehow convinced Zack Viola to do the art, James Lee to do the art direction, and for Russell Zimmerman to contribute fiction!
Zachary Viola ~ Artist Zack is a graduate of the prestigious Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art, whose work includes a two page spread in the Sinopa Publishing LLC debut adventure Tale of the Wizard's Eye. He is a remarkable artist and has created fantastic, all original art for this book.
James Lee ~ Art Director : James is a graphic designer, artist, and educator. Among his art direction credits are every book which Sinopa Publishing has released to date! A talented artist in his own right, he has contributed art to various projects. James also created the Encounter Scale System (tm) product line, bringing printable maps to the Sinopa Publishing catalog.
Russell Zimmerman — “Rusty” when he’s just chatting with folks — is a freelance writer and game developer most commonly associated with the Shadowrun game and fiction line. He’s managed to spill ink in a plenty of different games, ranging from Warmachine to Psionics, and was the lead writer on the award-winning PC game Satellite Reign. In recent years, Zimmerman has written for Shadowrun: Anarchy and a series of Shadowrun novels, featuring the fan favorite Jimmy Kincaid in hard-boiled yarns like Neat and Shaken. He’s recently branched out to the long-running Earthdawn setting, launching a novel trilogy with Initiate. When he’s not madly typing away as a freelancer, Russell also runs his own tiny imprint game company, Wordsmith Games. You can also find him on Patreon!

Risks and challenges
This is my fourth KickStarter Campaign for a role-playing game book.
Prior campaigns were funded and rewards fulfillment was on time for Tale of the Wizard's Eye, fulfillment ran late due to issues with the printing for The Draw of Glenfallow but was fulfilled within one month of the original fulfillment projection, fulfillment for Comet over Echo Rock was two weeks late due to technical issues. At this time backer rewards have been shipped to all backers who have responded to the rewards survey for that project.
The Steel Road is written, art is complete and formatted, text is being formatted into the book and should be completed within ten days of launch.
Delays that may occur: Print problems and shipping problems are the most likely cause for delay. You may see a delay in receipt of signed print copies based on the time it takes to deliver to your location. A valid address to a country I can ship to is required for receipt of hard copy rewards (signed or sketched copies).
I will be sending out the backer reward survey after the project funds to obtain information necessary to fulfill backer rewards. In order to have your name in the book's backer credits you must respond to that backer survey within fourteen (14) days of it's transmission.
I am confident that I can address problem that may arise, and I will certainly keep backers notified via updates of any difficulties.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
