47 Furious Tails, Issue #1 ~ A comic about the 47 Ronin
Comic book story of the 47 Ronin / Samurai, Furious action inspired by real life events! Japan and intrigue come alive in issue #1
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Fri, February 22 2019 4:30 AM UTC +00:00.
47 Furious Tails is a 12 issue limited series which tells the story of the Ako incident in a new and exciting way. Participants of this historic event are depicted as members of the animal kingdom. Join us as we tell the tale of this legend from Japan's rich history.
This KickStarter campaign funds the printing, shipping and remaining art costs of Issue one.
Asano Naganori, lord of Ako, is preparing for his fateful trip to Edo. But all is not ceremony and sake in Ako, as a band of fierce bandits raid into the region. In Edo, political forces are already in play that will ultimately doom lord Asano. Journey with us as we go back in time and examine the story of these legendary figures.
I have delved into the legends and literary accounts of the Ako incident, taking a few artist liberties to fill in the blanks and to make the characters into anthropomorphic animals. As the series progresses, you'll become acquainted with the principle actors in this legend, the men and women involved, and witness why the story of the Ako incident has persisted for over 300 years!
There are many ways you can support this project. All print copies will be signed and all backers receiving signed copies will also receive the "Thank You" cards as well. All backers also receive their name on the Wall of Honor, which is being placed on the issue's online product page, which is currently being constructed (You can see the page here). You may elect to use your name or a pseudonym.
If you have any questions about a tier, please comment or message me directly.
All tiers receive both digital posters. You are authorized to print a copy (or have a copy printed) for personal use.
Thank you cards:
The thank you cards come with the digital poster image on one side and a printed "Thank you" from myself and Alexia. All backers receiving printed copies will get both cards. The cards measure 4.2 inches by 5.5 inches, with the art on a glossy front. These cards are limited to KickStarter backers only.
On behalf of Alexia and myself, we thank you for your support.
I fund projects through KickStarter so I can pay a fair wage to the artists I commission for my projects. This KickStarter is being done for that same reason and to pay for printing and shipping of backer rewards.
Since 2017 I have brought my projects to KickStarter. With each campaign I strive to provide backers with the best production value possible. Along the way I've been able to put out great projects that I'm very proud of and met some really fantastic people in the process. Kickstarter is where life is breathed into projects, where they take flight and find their way to backers all over the world. I hope you'll support this project and help Alexia and I to bring 47 Furious Tails to print.
Please note: I will NOT publish hate speech that is submitted as a backer name or pseudonym. While this is rarely an issue, I like to be up front about it.
Digital copies of 47 Furious Tails, Issue One will be distributed through Drivethrucomics.com. When the backer survey is sent out (after we've funded and the campaign ends) it will include a question about what email address you would like to use for this digital reward.
Digital posters will be distributed via link sent to all pledge levels (You are granted permission to have one copy of each printed for personal use.)
Physical copies will be sent via United States Postal Service mail and will ship bagged and boarded. Backer tiers include shipping costs within the United States, while foreign destinations have an additional amount added in the pledge manager to help cover the additional shipping costs. Sketch art will be packaged and shipped directly from/by Alexia Veldhuisen.
Copyright statement: 47 Furious Tails is copyright(C) William Samuel Quinton and Sinopa Publishing 2017. Characters are based on historical figures. Story is inspired by the historic record of the Ako Incident, and has been fictionalized for narrative purposes. All rights reserved.
Risks and challenges
I have launched and fulfilled five KickStarter campaigns to date, three of which have fulfilled a couple of weeks later than projected due to unforeseen issues and one fulfilled ahead of schedule. The campaign for Whispers of Persephone has fulfilled all rewards except signed copies which are currently shipping to me and will be in backer hands shortly. I have planned for the events that had caused previous delays and I'm confident this campaign will fulfill on schedule.
Printing and shipping are the biggest areas of vulnerability for this project. I have identified multiple printers as fall back resources, and we'll be shipping through the United States Postal service.
Risks for delay in production are minimal. Alexia is a highly skilled professional artist, trained for the production of comic books and a graduate of the Kubert School. I am confident we will see completion of the remaining pages and fulfillment of backer rewards well within the scheduled time frame.
I look forward to sending 47 Furious Tails, Issue One to you. Thank you for your support!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
