As musicians who have been performing in different projects for nearly a decade, we have come to learn the importance of having someone in your corner. Someone who encourages you, argues for you, believes in you, and allows you the artistic freedom to create exactly what you envision.
Earlier this year we began toying with the idea of placing ourselves on the other side of the line, becoming that source of support. We sought to release the music of artists we respect and believe in wholeheartedly. However, we were not sold on merely becoming another record label. We knew we could find a way to do something special for artists and bring them closer to their fans. Singles Club is what we came up with.
The Record Club
A series of limited edition 7" records released quarterly and delivered straight to your door. Side A features track recorded exclusively for the club. Side B features a narrative composition with the artist. You'll even get a Singles Club 45 box that you can fill up as new issues roll in. All limited to 250 copies. When we're out, we're out.
- Four - 7" Records (limited to 250) includes exclusive A side and VINYL ONLY interview with the artist on the B side
- Digital Download
- Subscription-Only release
- Custom 7" Box to fill as issues roll in
- Bonus items - 45 Converter, Singles Club pin
- Full Color Artwork
With each release we are publishing a digital journal focused around the featured artist. Not a blog, rather a well crafted magazine for the web. Three features about said artists inspiration, influence, and lifestyle plus photo essays, interviews, video features, and more!
Issue #1: Daniel Bachman
Daniel Bachman is an American primitive-style guitar player now rooted in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. A visionary at his craft at only 24, Bachman has been placed along the likes of Jack Rose and John Fahey, featured on NPR's Tiny Desk Sessions, profiled on Pitchfork and The Fader, and called one of the best 30 guitarists under 30. This past year Daniel spent over 9 months on the road, released his 3rd full-length and has another coming this spring. We're extremely excited to have the opportunity to work with him and to bring you his first new material of 2014.
Small Sur is a Baltimore-bred folk-peace group spearheaded by songwriter Bob Keal. Keal, who left the South Dakota farm he was raised on at 19, spent time in California before landing in Maryland. Backed by a rotating cast of talented multi-instrumentalists, Keal’s soothing vocals are met with minimalist arrangements allowing the listener to simply ‘be’.
Woodsman is a Brooklyn via Denver based psychedelic/free-form trio. Whether improvised or rehearsed, Woodsman’s sound remains intimate and meditative. Obviously technicality adept, they are humble and modest players. They have released five albums on various formats since 2009 and show no signs of slowing down. Trevor Peterson, founding member and guitarist also runs Fire Talk Records and performs/records as Gem Trails. Dylan Shumaker, drummer, can also be seen performing with Alex Bleeker & The Freaks.
Wisdom Tooth is the moniker of Lancaster, PA based musician and visual artist John Andrews. A New Jersey native, Andrews has been recording and touring in different projects since he was sixteen. Over the past few years Wisdom Tooth has released a small run of tapes, CDs and LPs with a sound that has evolved from lo-fi pop to full-fledged psych-show tunes. When John isn’t making short films, music videos, and drawings, he also sits in as the drummer of the psych-folk band Quilt and organist of Woods.
We've worked hard to put together a diverse group of artists who are dedicated to their craft. Take a listen to the mix below for a taste of whats to come*.
*these are not the songs we're releasing but tracks we really love from the people we're working with.
Why the record club & journal?
Record clubs have existed for years. They started in the middle of the century with labels such as RCA and Columbia offering subscription services. This was the golden era of music and the medium. Slowly, you can see this service creeping back into the mainstream. After doing our research, nothing we found gave us quite the diversity or special character we were looking for.
In a similar vein are the plethora of music blogs that rule the web. There are a number of blogs doing a great job of attempting to push digital journalism to a more engaging place. We aim to continue this forward thinking and provide an editorial dialogue between process and final product. A music journal that outlines where an artists inspiration, influence, and lifestyle come from.

Who are we?
We are two musicians and creatives living in Brooklyn, NY. Chris is a designer at Kickstarter. Jeffrey is a writer and community manager at MTV. We've been making music like this together for almost 6 years. We already have a great contributor list and hope to continue adding to it.
Risks and challenges
We've done the legwork. The first issue is in the hands of GottaGroove Pressing in Ohio and our packaging is coming later this month. We've already shot half our sessions and have music from that same half. The biggest risk is an artist backing out. Luckily, we have very close relationships with our artists. We're confident in them however if that were to happen, we have a running list of other artists that we could reach out to. Missing a shipping deadline is also a risk. If that happens it's simply because we didn't think the test-pressings we received were high quality. Trust us, its all for the cause.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
