Simple.TV Shipping Update

Hi Kickstarters

First, I'd like to thank you for your patience over the past two weeks. We've tried hard to respond to everyone's questions as quickly as possible, including individual enquiries about shipping dates for the remainder of the Kickstarter units that are yet to go out.

Shipping Update

We had a very large order of several hundred units that had an overly lengthy visit with U.S. Customs last week. We did not anticipate that manufacturing our product in Toronto would potentially cause troubles with international shipping (it's not like we're mailing seeds or animals or anything!) Unfortunately, Customs had been hanging on to our orders for nearly a week before finally releasing them, slowing us down on nearly 1,000 deliveries.

Customs released the units last Monday morning and, as of Monday Nov 5, the packages are now at our distribution facility. They guarantee a 3-5 day turn around, but it looks like things could leave the facility even quicker than that. Worst case, orders placed first will likely be shipped on Thursday, then the later orders on Friday, and Saturday. Hopefully we will be able to fill all existing orders in that time-frame.

You will get an email notifying you when your Simple.TV has left the shipping facility.

Thank you so much for hanging in there as we get through shipping these final KS orders. Not long to go now!

      @Mikeho, Simple.TV plans to roll out fixes (I believe on their end, not firmware-related) as early as this weekend. The fixes are intended to address a number of issues, including registration, so that may help you.

      I can't speak for Simple.TV, but it seems very unlikely that your box will become "lost" once it's finally found and registration is completed. I haven't experienced that problem in the two weeks since I managed to successfully complete registration.

      Good luck with this. Be sure to send them another note if your situation doesn't improve. They're a tad back-logged right now working on fixes, but they do seem to be committed to making things right.

      @Jeff, thanks for the suggestions. I originally tried Safari, and that gave me a friendly error, pointing me to use Chrome -- so that's what I'm using now.

      I guess I'll periodically keep trying to do this "search" process and hope it gets found on my network. Not really sure what's going wrong in this step. :(

      And I assume that once this device is found, that it can't be "lost" again... it'd be pretty annoying if this search process was necessary all the time.

      @Mikeho, I'm sorry you're experiencing trouble. A couple of thoughts:

      - Internet Explorer is not supported (Chrome & Firefox are).
      - Rebooting your router while the Simple.TV is connected is a good idea. That may do it.

      I, too, had this issue. Ultimately, I solved it by going through the "search" process a number of times. It eventually just worked. I know it's frustrating, but I'm sure they will get to you as soon as they can. Simple.TV is really nice and, in my opinion, worth the set-up wait (not excusing Simple.TV here, mind you, it's just that the service is really nice once it's up and running).

      I suspect that a number of their support folks are off working the firmware update. If true, that's time well spent.

      Hmm. I'm stuck on "searching for device on your network" now... :( And I got this reply from Simple.tv support:

      "Thanks for your email—we are working on responding to you as soon as possible. Current wait times for email support are high—from 1 to 3 days. At this time we recommend customers visit our community forum (http://getsatisfaction.com/simpletv) to obtain help from community members. If you have any additional information to add please reply to this email."

      Looks like I'm not the only one with this problem:

      I've tried unplugging everything and plugging it back in, rebooting my computer... I guess I'll try rebooting my router next. Any other suggestions from anyone else who may have encountered this problem?

      I hope others have had problem-free setups. I'm trying to be patient.

      Simple.tv folks... one suggestion: use a different font for your activation codes because a capital "I" [EYE] and a lowercase "l" [EL] are impossible to tell apart. Luckily I figured it out before I screamed, "This is NOT simple".....

      @Billy, definitely send them an email if you haven't already done so. If it's any help, I originally had a problem at set-up that left me with a rapid (heartbeat) flashing blue light and a message telling me that my Simple.TV was unavailable. They fixed my problem quickly without me having to send it back to them. So definitely give them a chance to help you if you haven't already done so.

      most disappointing kickstarter ever :(

      sure i'll take it as MY FAULT for thinking they could support basic analog cable (which I didn't realize wasn't supported when I purchased it - I mean this was suppose to be SIMPLE tv right?)

      I had it tuned into channels and it even recorded 1 show but I couldn't watch live TV and now i've got a box that does nothing but flash a blue light and telling me that my simple.tv is currently unavailable.

      looking at the forums there doesn't appear to be a fix for it. I have to say this is the first time i've ever wanted a refund from a kickstarter project :P

      @Bily - I'm sorry you're experiencing trouble. Your best option is to send them a note at support@simple.tv. That opens up a support ticket. I originally had a setup issue, but they were able to fix it quickly; I'm confident that they'll be able to resolve your issues, too.

      Well I did get my Simple.tvs yesterday however I can't get anything but over the air channels, this is a real bummer. Simple.tv is anything but, I think my 'life time subscription' is only going to I last a few months if this is how the product works in its final stage.

      And I'm not talking about the setup (which in its self was annoying) but why can't i get the same channels I get on my tuners in my computer on simple.tv? Also 75% of the time I can't change the channel,s that I do get which actually wouldn't be so bad for my situation, but I can't get the channels I want to record.

      @Billy - that's great! I think you're really going to like Simple.TV. My experience (aside from an initial set-up issue that Simple.TV quickly resolved) has been really good. There are definitely some fixes and incremental features that are needed, but I trust those will come soon enough. Have fun.
