SIMPATICO'S DREAM DESIGN CAMPAIGN. A round-trip to the afterlife! The dark underbelly of the organ-trade's black-market! Embossed stationery! A high society matriarch self-immolating on her designer bbq grill...fur coat and all!
These are just a few of the challenges facing Simpatico Theatre Project's design team for the riveting, regional premiere of Sarah Ruhl’s DEAD MAN'S CELL PHONE, running this October at Walnut Street Theatre’s Independence Studio on 3 in Philadelphia.
DEAD MAN'S CELL PHONE is a deliciously provocative and deeply moving expose on our society's tech obsession. Follow Jean as she embarks on an extraordinary odyssey for purpose and companionship, among a myriad of mysterious phone calls and tantalizing rendezvous. Will she have the courage to truly connect? Or will her journey yield further isolation?
THE DESIGN. The overall production design needs to make this odyssey an utterly fantastical, yet incredibly fluid one for our audience. That's no easy task; but Simpatico is determined to produce our most impacting and sensuously stunning production to date. DEAD MAN'S CELL PHONE demands brave artistic choices of our designers; and we want to give them the resources they need to make their dream designs a production reality. Our existing budget will accomplish the task capably, but we’d like to shoot for the moon this fall.
- Our DREAM DESIGN goal is $7,700 in total. This amount will cover all sets, lights, sound, costumes, props, build & load-in costs and theatre reconfiguration.
- Our historical design budget average is $3,752 per production.
- Consistent in our numbers, DEAD MAN'S CELL PHONE's design budget is currently set at $3,700, slightly under that average.
- That's $4,000 to reach our DREAM DESIGN!
We know we can do it with your help!
