A Long Overdue Update and a New Project
Let me start with an apology for my silence. Many of you have inquired if and when there would be a SIMPLcase for iPhone 6, 6 Plus, and now of course 6s and 6s Plus. Sadly, there are no plans now to do a mass production updated version of SIMPLcase. That being said, I am in the process of refining a 3D printable version and hope to make that available to you soon. I don't know if many of you want a 3D printed product, but the fact of the matter is that LGCLDESIGNS and the qaramel brand failed to support itself as a sustainable business. Without going into details, I'll just say there were many lessons learned before my partner and I realized we weren't going to go the distance with this one. We're still proud of the design and of the product we shipped, but we also knew we had to call it quits. Between the challenges of the business as well as developments (positive ones) in our personal lives, we've both decided to move on.
So, Ed has moved his family back to London where I'm sure he'll do great things. As for me, since SIMPLcase, I've gotten married and most recently become a first time father :-) It's cliche' to say that becoming a parent changes your priorities, but it's definitely true! So, with my family's financial security at stake, I'm back to working a full time job. Fortunately, I still get to do what I love and the people I'm working with now are really great. I consider myself incredibly blessed and so very lucky!
SIMPLcase was a great learning experience, and the biggest insight I personally came away with is that I love being a designer... and that one good product and passion are not enough to create a business. SIMPLcase was a great project, but in hindsight we ought not to have attempted to turn it into a business. C'est la vie.
Now, onto the NEW PROJECT...
Before I found my new job, I started working on a number of different projects with a couple of other Kickstarter creators whom I met while both our campaigns were running at the same time. The guys at Innolifestyles, and their AEGLO brand, have already built a sustainable accessories business. To their operational professionalism, I brought ideas and my design skills.
One of the ideas I proposed started out as a simple credit card sized portable iPhone dock, but has evolved into a modular system to keep you powered, connected, and entertained anywhere and all without cables. We've been in development for over a year and I'm super pleased to tell you that the campaign is LIVE NOW!
Thanks for your support!
