Stretch goal #3: 450.000 NOK

If we reach 450.000 NOK in total funding, we will create a Playing Lean Webinar Series!

The series will focus on specialised topics, like using Playing Lean as a part of the accelerator programme or within academia for entrepreneurship course, as well as tips and tricks from some of our best facilitators.

Stretch goal #2: 350.000 NOK

If we reach 350.000 NOK in total funding, we will create a brand new scenario for Playing Lean 2!

The scenario will be downloadable in a self print version for all backers. This time it will be something special: We will make a scenario highlighting the difficulties of working at an internal startup in a big corporation.

The industry will be fintech, which has been requested many times by our players.

Stretch goal #1: 190.000 NOK

Playing Lean 2 is becoming a reality, but the campaign continues!

If we reach 190.000 NOK (20.000 EUR/24.000 USD) in funding everybody will get a set of workshop posters you can use as you wish. Before locking in the content, we will gather valuable feedback from our backers and facilitators. In our workshops we usually use:

  • The five principles of entrepreneurship
  • The four stages of innovation
  •  The technology adoption curve
  •  The business model and value proposition canvas

The posters will be distributed in a high quality PDF format.

The new flight simulator

Playing Lean is the board game where players face the hard choices of innovation without getting out of the building. It’s our flight simulator for Lean Startup, the safe place where thousands of entrepreneurs have learned to fly without risking their life savings.

When we launched the first Kickstarter campaign for Playing Lean early in 2015, it was a failure. We persevered, improved the game and our campaign skills and tried again. By summer 2015 we had met our funding goal and Playing Lean 1 became a reality.

By now, we have sold more than one thousand games and organized hundreds of workshops. So when we ran out of Playing Lean 1 games, there was only one thing we could do: Take all the lessons we have learned, distill them and design them into a new and improved flight simulator for Lean Startup: Playing Lean 2: The Next Release

The Value Proposition (Canvas)

To create Playing Lean 2, we have partnered up with Alexander Osterwalder, inventor of the Business Model Canvas and one of the great minds of Lean Startup.

We have used the Value Proposition Canvas, a great tool for understanding the needs of your customers and designing the products and services they want.

The concept and ideas of Value Proposition Design underlies the brand new scenario we have built for Playing Lean 2. Are you ready to test your innovation skills in the Hospitality Industry?

Be lean like AirBnB

We all know the story of the entrepreneurs who started by renting out some airbeds in their apartment. They founded AirBnB and led a revolution in how we travel the world.

With Playing Lean 2, you can do the same - again and again. Build the service that customers really want and capture the majority market before your competitors know what happened.

Get out of the building

You take charge of one of four startups that compete for the lions share of the emerging hospitality market: AirCouch, HomeBnB, FlipStay and Wimbu.

To succeed, these startups must hit the market with experiments to figure out what customers really need. Each experiment is represented by a unique card that gives valuable insight into Lean Startup and Value Proposition Design.

If your experiment is successful, you also get insight into what your prospective customers really need.

Move fast and break something

Once you know your customers, it's time to build the features that will meet their needs. A lean mindset is necessary. Each new feature adds to the complexity of the product and makes the next one even more expensive to build. You must take care to only build the features that customers will pay for.

Coffee is for closer

As you build the product, you must also start marketing and selling to get the customers in. You start by reaching out to individual early adopters, but the end goal is to win the majority market. Can you reach your goal without falling into a chasm?

Build the company

The "Company Building" part of Playing Lean has gotten a complete makeover with The Next Release!

Your company is made up of five separate Company Blocks. To improve, you have a chance to upgrade your Company Blocks every turn. You must outbid your competitors, though. Perhaps they want improvement more than you?

By upgrading parts of your company, you can improve your skills at building the product, experimenting and selling.

What's new?

For experienced Playing Lean 1 players, here's the list of all the new stuff in Playing Lean 2:

Bigger main board and customer tiles. We have seen that sessions with Playing Lean often take place at big conference room tables. The bigger board will be more appropriate, while the bigger customer tiles will be easier to handle than the smaller ones from Playing Lean 1.

Smaller and handier game box. Many coaches and consultants bring their Playing Lean games for workshops. The new box is square and smaller overall, making it easier to pack in all sorts of luggage.

New company building mechanics. We love the new company building mechanics. In Playing Lean 2, you build your company piece by piece. You can't upgrade whenever you want to. Instead players have to compete for the improvements in auctions at the beginning of each round. This brings a new competitive dynamic into play, and even more varied games for repeat players.

The new scenario. Based on Alexander Osterwalder's Value Proposition Design, the new scenario brings an interesting and innovative industry to Playing Lean: The Hospitality Industry.

Risks and challenges

Every project has risks, but we're feeling quite confident on this one. Playing Lean 2 is not our first board game. We have had initial talks with top tier board game manufacturers and the game has been tested in prototype versions for a long time.
