UPDATE! check out this great video of Silver Lining in action!

It's true, America imports over 97% of it's garments, more than ANY other country in the world.

The cost of Fast Fashion is becoming common knowledge. Like the slow food movement, the Slow Fashion movement is gaining momentum. Domestic manufacturing is on the rise, and we see the Silver Lining!

Silver Lining is a professional garment manufacturing house in Eugene, Oregon rooted in sustainability.

Silver Lining Productions:

  • Provides an alternative to overseas manufacturing
  • Supports designers to grow their business
  • Creates jobs
  • Re-establishes an American Industry
  • Encourages sustainability
  • Innovates upcycling processes for manufacturing

Howdy Kickstarter Fans, thank you so much for perusing our project.

We are makers of many things, but our sewing machines stitch together much more than fabric and thread. Silver Lining is our answer to Fast Fashion and we are innovating ways to manufacture that include recycling garments, re-purposing materials and utilizing local resources first.

We have taken the plunge, opened the space and brought in all the industrial machines we can afford at the moment, but we need YOUR help to get to the next level. We are currently sizing and patterning by hand in a manner that is just not efficient. There is a variety of pattern making software on the market that would allow us to not only create and alter patterns with ease, but also store them digitally and grade by size almost instantly. We feel confident that with the proper training (oh yeah, they charge you for that too), we will be able to speed up the pattern and grading process by over 50%, not to mention we won’t be drowning in cut patterns because we will be able to store those patterns DIGITALLY.

WE ARE ADDING SOME STRETCH GOALS TO OUR PROJECT!

Let us explain a little more of how our project funding adds up: Once we reach our goal of $10,000, after Kickstarter and Amazon fees are taken and we pay for shipping and labor to create our Rewards, we will end up with about $7,500-which is awesome-but will only allow us to buy the Pattern-making and Grading software.

If we are able to reach $12,500 within before our project ends, we will be able to buy the Digitizer mat that would allow us to trace paper patterns directly into the software and grade them efficiently. We will also be able to purchase a block of training to help us begin using this software immediately!

If we reach $15,000, we would be ale to add more training hours and the Marker software that allows us to nest patterns so that we waste as little material as possible.

We wouldn't be able to even conceive of these stretch goals without the support of all the backers who have gotten us so close to fulfilling our original funding goal. We are overjoyed and thankful for all your support and hope that we can plow through our funding goal and reach even further!

We see the Silver Lining and we think you might too!

Besides showing your support for American manufacturing, you will also get a piece from our house line.

We teamed up with fellow Kickstarter, Shadowfox Designs, for this awesome reward. Their laser cutter outlines our leather and we make it in to a key chain.  It poses a question and makes for a great conversation starter about economics, sustainability, and design.

We have been collecting chicken feed bags destined for the landfill from a livestock feed producer 30 miles away. Perfect for your trip to the farmers market or library!

We have been collecting burlap coffee bags from local roasters for our messenger bags and zipper pouches. The leather used is also up-cycled scrap. (Vegan options are available on request).

Thank you for reading our profile and believing in our project. Help us bring manufacturing home!

Many Blessings

Laura Lee, Grace, and Irma

Risks and challenges

The beauty and benefit of using upcycled materials can also pose a challenge. Fulfilling our rewards requires a large supply of burlap, feed bags, leather, and fabric. We have been collecting burlap coffee bags from local roasters, feed bags from local farms, scrap leather from our local leather shop and natural fiber sheets and material from thrift stores.

Lucky for us, the Pacific Northwest loves their coffee, so we see no shortage of burlap coffee sacks. If we need to find more, we can source out to Portland and Seattle.

The farm we get the chicken feed bags from gets rid of hundreds per month and we have a stockpile already started. If we run out of those bags, there are many other feed bags that we can use instead.

All of the other materials used for our rewards are plentiful and abundant in our thrifty city.
*Please be aware that the look of each product will be slightly different due
to the nature of our materials*
