About this project
The Adventures of Rudy Cool is an all ages adventures series from Sydney's Silver Fox Comics! Rudy Cool is a 15 year old secret agent for Yuppie Insurance. When things get stolen, Rudy’s got to steal them back! In this adventure, Rudy goes to Paris to retrieve The Ruby Love Diamond. But when he meets the 16 year old jewel thief Miss Boo, it's love at first sight! So what’s a secret agent who’s never been kissed supposed to do, when he meets the girl of his dreams? Arrest her for stealing the diamond or ask her out for a chocolate milkshake date? Plus with Big Bear Security led by Napoleon Bearnaparte, and Miss Boo's 3 monkeys Chico, Rico and Nico guarding her every move, Rudy’s in big trouble! With fun filled action and adventure, it's too cool for school and you're gonna love it! It's got it all from hijinks, heists, heart attacks and hypnosis, plus dating tips and romance, bubble gun, nerf guns, psychotic teddy bears, and even more! I hope you'll support this campaign and pre-order. The art is all ready to go and we will deliver from May. We launch this on May 3 at Sydney's Kinokuniya book store for FCBD!
NOTE: For your name to be added to the Society of Coolness page for the first print run, we need pledged by Sun 11pm 27 April 2014 Sydney Time Australia.
"It's colourful, charming, has cute leads and an even cuddlier supporting cast - who may or may not be deadly! It's Comic-book-goodness with a capital C! Super-spy Rudy Cool and jewel-thief Miss Boo are two star-crossed teens you really want to cheer for and it sounds like a series that will be globe-trotting fun!" Chewie Chan Comic Book Kinokuniya
"Rudy Cool is a fantastic read for people of all ages , with exciting dynamic art and a fast paced style of story telling , I'm sure this book will be a must read for years to come. My rating , a solid 5/5"
Todd Andrew Baillie from Kaboom Comics and Geek Speak
"A fun, comedic adventure..Rudy’s world is full of loveable characters plucked straight from a kid’s imagination: a talking Beagle, crafty monkey henchmen, French teddy bears, and a Teddy Zulu Nation! These characters create a lot of the humour found within the story, while Rudy’s pursuit of Miss Boo has the classic pratfalls of a zany madcap film comedy. It’s easy to think that super-heroes rule comic books, but if we look back to our early comic book exposure it may have been TinTin that sparked a love of adventure, or perhaps Asterix, Disney’s Duck titles or The Simpsons comics that made us laugh out loud.
And I laughed out loud reading Rudy Cool’s misadventures!
That’s my tick of approval right there!"

"I thought it was excellent! I love the idea of the "ruby love diamond". I thought the teddy bears are awesome and I love it when Rudy cool becomes a naked teddy bear!!!"
Madison (my ten year old niece - see more on why Madison played such an important role further below!)"A hallmark of Silver Fox Comics' published works, no matter what genre they are or what market they appeal to, is that they are whole lot of rollicking fun. Sorab Del Rio and his team have done it once again in this all ages graphic novel about jewel thieves, teenage love and angst, cheeky monkeys, militaristic teddy bears, legendary diamonds and chocolate dinosaurs. This is a "cool" high energy break-out read with stand alone characters, as well as wonderful art and production values. A great reinvention for Silver Fox Comics." The Making of Rudy Cool
10 Things about the making of The Adventures of Rudy Cool!
Bringing Rudy Cool has taken over 10 years to bring to life!
While this is the first Rudy Cool story released, we’ve previously produced 3 short stories before.
The first three stories were never released as my niece Madison, rejected the character designs for Rudy! I figured if they’re not working for Madison, they’re not going to work for anyone! Finally Madison approved the character design for Rudy.
Truth be told, I’m glad I waited! The little critic was right all along! Not only did we change the design of Rudy, but also the character of Rudy as well! Plus at that stage, I was only able to write short stories, not full length stories.
Side story on Madison: I once told her that once a month on a full moon, my gals Rio and Rio (who are dogs BTW) turn into little children! After the full moon disappears, they turn back into their furry selves. To this day I think she believes me!
The character of Rudy Cool is based on me. Once I made the decision to base Rudy on me, this became the most natural story to write. The best moments from Rudy trying to date Miss Boo are based on my own dating mis-adventures! The scene about hot chocolate and the scene where Rudy says, “Hey was that a K…“was all from real life.
Much of this story was written in Sydney’s Hyde Park, Sydney Park in Alexandria and Homebush Bay whilst out on walks with Rio and Ria. We’d sit at the top of the hill on a sunny day, I’d write and they’d run round in circles chasing each other.
Miss Boo was based on a composite of a few dream girls, one of which works in a bookstore in Sydney. The first time I met her, I couldn’t talk properly and all I said was yes to whatever she asked.
Napoleon Bearnaparte was inspired by a teddy bear I had as kid, who was dressed as Napoleon. The hunt for the creative team drove me insane – we couldn’t find the right look for the book!
At one stage, I’d given up and was ready to shelve the project again. Finally we found our superstar team of Glauco and Fred, who will also work on our next 2 books. Guys, I cannot thank you enough – you are a godsend!
This is the forth project Don and I have collaborated on for Silver Fox Comics. I think this is our favourite to date from Zorro to Zombie Cities to The Adventures of Rudy Cool. Let’s get this to France now! This is also the first time we had help with editors Dean and Emma, and it was the icing on the cake
Risks and challenges
Bringing Rudy Cool to life has taken over 10 years and cost a small fortune across the 3 unreleaesed stories and finally this graphic novel. If we can raise $2000 we'll be able to digitally print the book and showcase this at conventions round Australia. It's the minimum we need to move the project forward. However if we can raise $8000, we will be able to print this offset in bulk and look to have it distributed to comic book stores internationally.
Best of all I am thrilled to say the the artwork for the book is all complete! We will delvier this in May with a launch on May 3 at Sydney's Kinokuniya, and conventions across Australia! See our event schedule with more to follow.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
