**UPDATE!** Thanks to our amazing supporters, we are now trying to reach our stretch goal, which will enable us to create a short film documentary, and distribute it through a prominent social media platform who has offered us an outlet for the project. Depending on how much we raise, additional funding will go towards additional exhibitions in Fortaleza's twinned cities, leading to a larger audience and increased awareness on the daily challenges of a child in the favelas of Fortaleza.
Thank you again so much for your support!

This is a story that NEEDS to be told.
With your support, we will create a book and exhibition, with 50 children in the favelas of Fortaleza, telling their own stories through photography amidst the controversial Social-Spatial displacement influenced by the 2014 World Cup.
This will also be a rare opportunity for the children to share a true image of their community, not filtered by news agencies or dominated by outsider perspectives invested in presenting The World Cup 2014 as solely a beneficial and profitable event for the country of Brazil and it's residents.
Background on Fortaleza, Brazil
As Brazil prepares to host the World Cup this summer, Fortaleza is under the spotlight for it's reputation as the country's capital of sex tourism and sexual exploitation of children. With a country of over half a million child prostitutes, and 16 million people living on less than $1.30 USD a day, adolescents are lured into prostitution and exploitation that can easily lead to drug addiction, violence, and abuse. So far, an estimated $400 million has been spent on revitalizing areas for tourism in Fortaleza alone, and 200,000 people have been displaced nationwide.
Alongside the children, we will create a cohesive body of work which will give true insight and depth to the life of a child living in the favelas of Fortaleza, including photographs and memoirs depicting that their lives are also filled with love, ambition, generosity, and kindness.
Book, Exhibition, and more!
Your pledges will help us create a compilation of the children's photographs and writings in a full color book, an exhibition in NYC of selected images, and distribution of the book to selected schools, libraries, and community centers, including all twinned cities. Your support will help fund the five week photography workshop, purchase of instant cameras, developing of films, hot lunches for the children, and printing of the books.
About silent tapes
"There is such a vast spectrum of life, and stories untold, in the slums. There are people in desperate need to be heard, to tell their story, and anyone capable of offering a listen or a hand should do so. We believe that through photography we can connect people from all walks of life, and create a level of understanding that will lead to action. Art inspires hope." - Stephanie Lane

Risks and challenges
Working in the favelas will come with significant security risks. For this challenge, we have secured partnership with an established organization that has extensive experience working in the favelas of Fortaleza, particularly with its local children. They will collaborate with us in all aspects of the project once we have arrived, such as recruiting the students and maintaining a safe environment for everybody involved at all times.
Regarding printing, we aim to begin production once we return home from Brazil in August 2014, and are estimating printing of the books to take place in mid September. If everything runs as planned, we should have the books and all other gifts shipped out as scheduled in October 2014. Of course, if there is any slight delay, due to unforeseen reasons, we will keep in touch with all backers and give updates at that time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
