Update: some wonderful support for the campaign from Globus!
Hi, I'm Geraint. :) I'm a musician (piano, vocals, synths) based in Cambridge, UK.
I have written an album with 12 tracks, fusing epic soundtrack, singer-songwriter and electronic music, and I'm excited to release it to the world. However, I need your help with getting tracks professionally mixed, mastered, commissioning album art, and all the other trimmings of a proper release.
In return, you'll get the first copies of the album, ahead of public release.
Paper Thunderstorm: an album of cinematic songs
I've been writing music from a young age, but have mostly kept them to myself, friends and family. A year or two ago, I put a self-mixed and self-released album on iTunes and Spotify, and I realised that I really wanted my music to be out there.
I've always loved orchestral soundtracks and epic rock - and after being a winner of a songwriting competition for Globus (an epic orchestral pop/rock group), I felt motivated to step up and make something magnificent, something big.
So here we are - I have an album I'm excited about and proud of, and you can help me put a final shine on it so it can be released, and you get to be the first to hear the results!
About the music
The music is a mixture of singer-songwriter (largely written using the piano) fused with electronic components and high-energy orchestra.
I listen to a lot of cinematic music such as Globus / Immediate Music, Two Steps From Hell and Ivan Torrent. On the quiet side, I love and admire Vienna Teng and Imogen Heap. I also have a love for electronic and rock music, such as CHVRCHES and Muse.
I tend to write the music I want to hear, and so perhaps some of these are influences in my music - you'll have to be the judge of that. :)
Where will the funding go?
The biggest items are the mixing and mastering. For a 12-track album, £2500 will get a fairly basic mix and master, and better mixing/mastering costs more. On top of that, we'd like some album art, and of course duplicating CDs and printing booklets. £2000 doesn't cover all of that, as I'll be putting my own money towards this as well.
If there is extra budget, it will first go towards the best mixing and mastering we can afford (my ideal one would cost £10,000), because it really makes a big difference! However, there are a few landmarks on the way to celebrate (stretch goals!):
- £2000 - core goal
- £3000 - modern cardboard (digipak) cases, instead of plastic
- £5000 - fancier booklet with illustrations and lyrics

Risks and challenges
The music has been written and recorded already.
There might well be some things to be changed or re-recorded etc. - there's some space built into the timeline for this so that should minimise delays.
If there are any issues coming back from the mixing or mastering engineers, I'll update accordingly.
If we're using a more basic mix and master deals, we'll likely commission a "test mix" of one track before sending the whole album over. Again, the schedule includes time for some back-and-forth with this.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
