Sidius Nova is a strategy game where two species battle for their survival. Since Sidius Nova has wiped out both species' homeworlds with a single wormhole, they must rely on their large fleet of motherships to survive. They'll have to harvest resources from nearby planets and build large fleets to defend themselves against each other.
If we meet our goal, we will use the money to cover basic costs and get Sidius Nova ready to be published on the App Store this fall!
If we exceed our goal, we'd really like to add some additional features. Here are some of the things that we'd like to add if we make enough:
Player vs. Player
We believe that multiplayer would add a lot to the already fun game play. Imagine the ability to play against other players online. There would be a global ladder system on which you could trace your ranking. Players could form clans, invent new strategies and use them to compete with each other.
Persistent Game World
The one step further would be an online game world, a galaxy with hundreds of star systems, each with numerous planets. Each star system would have jump gates, which serve as hubs from which you can reach other star systems. Planet management would be expanded to include more buildings. You could increase the size of your empire and try to conquer whole star systems, positioning large fleets on jump gates to protect your system from other players trying to invade. Another way to ensure the safety of your assets would be to join player alliances. There are many ways you could make Sidius Nova work as a persistent game world and we truly believe that it would be perfect for that.
Stefan Schmitt is a game designer and programmer living in Mountain View, CA. He has years of experience in the industry and has worked on AAA titles like World of Warcraft, StarCraft II and Diablo III. Soon after moving to the Silicon Valley, he decided to create the indie game of his dreams. The game that would become Sidius Nova was born.
Ben Jelter is an illustrator and game designer living in San Francisco. He has received multiple recognitions and awards from the Society of Illustrators, the Academy of Art, and CMYK.
Ben and Stefan met at a Game Dev meetup in San Francisco. They’ve both been working on what would be Sidius Nova for quite some time now, designing and creating the game together.

It is written for iOS right now and will be compatible with the latest iPod Touch, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s running iOS 5.

Sidius Nova has aspects of both. The map screen is a strategic turn-based game with 3 moves per turn. On the map screen players can build ships, probe enemy fleets, and explore planets that can be mined for resources. Once two fleets collide, a battle is initiated. In battles players will have to deploy their ships quickly in order to counter an enemy attack.
Each player starts with a single mothership. The mothership acts as a mobile base. It can collect resources, build units, and spy on enemy fleets. A player wins the game by destroying the enemy's mothership. Since the base is mobile, its position on the map is critically important to a player's success.
We really want to implement multiplayer, but we'll have to make significantly more than the kickstarter goal in order to do that. If we can raise enough money to cover our expenses, we'd even like to make the in-game universe a persistent game world.
Another goal would be to expand the community to Android users or optimize the game for iPad.
Sidius Nova is specifically designed to be easy to play on the go. The real-time aspects of the game are condensed into small chunks of time so that it is unlikely that an interruption will disrupt a critical moment of gameplay. Since the rest of the game is turn-based, it will be easy to resume a game where you left off the next time you pick up your phone.
Sidius Nova is an almighty, powerful being watching Humans and Aliens ripping each other apart. She represents the evil form of the All Seeing Eye and has been around since the beginning of the universe. It is speculated that Sidius Nova was a sentient species that progressed into a hive mind and eventually evolved into a single physical being. She uses stars as a power source.
