DIY Boombox Kit + online BUILD PARTY = Best Holiday Gift EVER! Backer Level #4!
What is SICKLUGGAGE?
SICKLUGGAGE is a music and art festival in a box. It's what music wants and music is what moves us most basically and most universally. We started making bespoke SICKLUGGAGE aluminum boomboxes 3 years ago because we couldn't find anything out there with style, sound and portability. We quickly learned that we really built the thing everybody has been desperately wanting - a platform for personal public expression and community gathering.
At first we imagined the standard growth model - sell a bunch of the company to venture finance funding factory production with cheap labor, scaling by larger and larger orders in China and ever larger marketing spends - all with the cheapest materials and no accountability for the impact of our products on your environment and your soul. Instead, we are learning how to spread local production that works for workers, the environment and the boogie down people who love music. We envision a world with many SICKLUGGAGE certified build partners, hanging up their keys for a SICKER distributed workforce opportunity.
Enter the Harvest 1 Series Limited Edition Wooden Boombox. A one of a kind community gathering powerhouse made from old and unloved wine crates headed for the dump. No more! We packed in 200 Watts of HiFi love with endless hours of play time, bluetooth 5, USB charging and True Wide Stereo pairing with any other SICKLUGGAGE for a combined 400 Watts of call the cops anywhere you want to take it.
What we want is technology that brings us back to the human connection - from the drum circle at the dawn of fire, to the street heat of the boombox 90s. The risk is when we give up on our will to participate at all - to hear a new song together and share a new perspective.
What your ACTUALLY supporting...
We're going after our culture of disposal and our disposal of culture.
There is no doubt that this one of a kind human-made boombox is worth every penny of ownership, but it's being a part of something bigger that you're really supporting.
We see a fragmented world out there - it's hard to find your place, we know this because we've struggled with it too. The more connected we all seem to be, the more separated we actually find ourselves - glued to our phones and apps binge watching into oblivion. BUT YOU CAN BREAK THAT CYCLE. By bringing your music, your style and your true self out into the world, we can all reverse this trend of isolation TOGETHER.
With your help, SICKLUGGAGE can turn the corner on manufacturing our new line of wooden boomboxes - offered at an affordable price for more people. Discovering used wooden wine crates and prototyping our solution has forced us to simplify this work of art down to its essential features. The result is a beautiful, unique as you and endlessly versatile music listening companion like no other.
In ADDITION to the good vibes!
This campaign is just the initial fits of a big move. All this may sound crazy - and we are admittedly a little SICK. We're asking for your faith, trust and dollars to back us up. We hope to make every mistake we can learn from as we prove the unit economics of small batch production in little towns, big cities, maker garage spaces and workshops everywhere.
If you want to see more street level reactions, deep thoughts, and the real reason we decided to make the world's most tricked out boombox - you can get to know us more on Instagram here, or at the bottom of this page we embedded a reaction video from folks who know sickluggage in real life.
Risks and challenges
There are a lot of risks when retrofitting something from its intended use into total and utter SICKNESS, but rest assured that we've done our fair share of due diligence so that you can rock out with your box out. If something is a miss, of course we'll work directly with you to resolve any issues.
We also know that to pull something like this off, we need a big audience - something we're working on, but not quite there yet. We've reached out to press for coverage, our personal networks for support and anything else we can think of to let people know about this campaign.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
