Everybody loves gears and gizmos. Here are some that you can use in a variety of settings. These dice are perfect for playing any game, whether it's role-playing, a game you made, or replacing the boring dice in your other games. With a nice look and feel, now you can enjoy your turn before the dice even leave your hand.
This design uses simple gears attached on the ends to form dice. On each side, the number of holes shows the value. This keeps the realistic look and feel of the gears instead of printing numbers on each side. The holes in the sides are designed to keep the dice balanced and evenly weighted while maintaining symmetry with the way they look. And, these dice are designed to be the standard 16mm size.
Creating dice is costly, especially through the prototyping process. Not only does it cost to have the dice made, but remade, and remade, and remade, and… you get the idea. Beyond that, The materials have to be paid for, which even in plastic, adds up. This is even more true when making them out of metal. By helping with this project, you are not only helping bring these dice to life, but also giving me the opportunity to create even more wonderful designs.
You may have noticed that my funding goal is much smaller compared to many other kickstarters in its category. This is because my goal is simple: I want it to be a success. Even if only a handful of people get to have these dice, I truly want the opportunity to finish them, and make more. Naturally, I would love to give them to a lot of people too, so tell your friends!
The prototyping stage is almost complete for the first die, but in order to bring it to completion, I need your help here on Kickstarter.
ABOUT THE DICE:
Often times, dice and other small creations can become so busy with details that it becomes difficult to see what's what. The idea behind these dice is to be simply appealing.
Yes, you saw right in the picture, these dice are not filled in. They have empty space between the gears making them much more aesthetically pleasing. The final product will also have a much nicer finish than the prototypes shown here.
MAKING THE DICE:
To make the dice, I use a 3d modeling program to design them virtually. Each die takes hours to design and if there are any problems with it, it is often easier to start over than try and undo it. The creation process can be very tedious, but the positive side is that the real die looks exactly like the virtual one. That being said, all mistakes and blemishes must be caught while it is still on the computer because they don't just magically go away when it's printed.
After I feel I've somewhat satisfied the never-ending urge of perfection, I send the design over to the shop to get printed. Although the real one should be identical to what is designed on the computer, sometimes errors happen in the printing process which causes the need for reprinting, and in turn, can cause the need for more money, especially in the prototyping process.
REWARDS & SHIPPING:
All shipping in the US is $7 and international shipping $17. Please be sure to check the shipping cost when you select your reward. If it doesn't match correctly, send a message for an adjustment.
For international shipping, please make sure that your country is on the USPS international shipping list. For most countries, this is not an issue. If you don't see your country on the list, message me. I will look at other mailing services to get it to you.
For those that want to back at more than one level in the U.S, you do not have to pay shipping for each one. Just include $7 for the shipping as long as you are requesting an amount that can fit into the boxes we'll be using. For those that are in other countries, the $17 shipping will hold up to 1 pound of these dice, which is a good handfull.
For those of you that would like to give these as a gift without somebody knowing, you can! All you have to do is provide the name and address of the person you want it sent to. And, as a special service for my backers, if you send me a card digitally, I will print it out and put it in the package.
ADD-ONS & UPGRADES:
With stretch goal #1 unlocked, you can upgrade any number of stainless steel dice to polished bronze steel by adding $1 per die you want to upgrade. This upgrade is available only if your reward includes stainless dice. And yes, you can have a mix of stainless and polished bronze.
D8 add-on: Since it looks like we are going to be shy of stretch goal #2, the d8 is now available as an add-on. If you would like to add a stainless steel d8 to your order, add $18. These can also be upgraded to polished bronze steel for those who want it.
Multiple orders are also fine if you want to order with some friends to save shipping costs. Just add the appropriate amount for the dice and message me to let me know so I can put them all in one box.

Risks and challenges
Lots of work to do always poses a great challenge. In order to make sure everything gets done, and in a timely manner, I have contracted a company to do all the printing of the dice. This will allow me to focus most of my time and energy on making improvements to the designs and creating the other dice. Of course, I personally check over the dice to make sure they are free of errors and have them reprinted if necessary.
I am confident in facing any other challenges as the funding has been calculated precisely to handle all of the costs, worst case scenarios, no matter how many orders come in. However, I will be updating anything noteworthy, both positive, and unpositive.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
