Hi! I'm Sian and I'm a designer and illustrator based in Hertfordshire UK. I run an online shop on both my own website and Etsy and work as a freelance designer and wedding stationer creating lovely things every day.
About Penguin and this Campaign
If you know me or are familiar with my online shop, you'll know that I create cute and colourful cards and gifts, mostly featuring a little Penguin character. He is quite the mischievous fellow and gets himself into all sorts of situations! He has featured in his own little desk calendar, each year since 2016, and it has continued to be my best selling product (the 2020 version is now available to pre-order on both my website & Etsy shop!)
I wanted to expand the range of products in my shop for the Autumn/Winter 19 season and one of those was to create a new range of Penguin enamel pins and this is where I need your help.
Penguin is floating away with a bunch of colourful balloons for this initial pin design. This pin will be made from high-quality soft enamel, with a black dye metal outline and potentially 2 pink rubber clutch fixings on the back. Each pin is approximately 28mm across and 34 mm tall and will be packaged on a backing card, making it an ideal gift.
If I'm lucky enough to reach the initial goal, I already have a few pin designs waiting in the wings as potential stretch goals, including one that might be a little festive! Considering these will be available around November time, they'll be ready in plenty of time for gifting. So keep an eye out for potential stretch goals!
EDIT 8 Sept: This project is now 98% funded, so so close, and we are now almost halfway through the campaign. I've decided to potentially change up the order of the stretch goals. To create the cartwheeling & dancing penguin pins was quite a big jump in funding after the initial goal, so I've changed them up so that the stretch goals are smaller jumps. I'm also really excited about the pin I had planned for the last stretch goal, Penguin holding a stack of gifts...perfect for either birthdays or that certain day in December ;-)
EDIT 24 Sept: I've decided to unlock the Penguin with all the gifts pin early and it now unlocks at £500 instead of £550 :-)
Each pledge will receive my eternal gratitude and I hope I've included a range of rewards for every budget. Choose to receive one, two or more pins as your reward, make the most of the early bird offers and keep an eye out for my stretch goals if I'm lucky enough to reach the target.
If you're not able to pledge, please share with your friends, I really do appreciate all of your support.
Environment & Packaging
I'm committed to reducing the amount of unnecessary plastic and where I can, using recyclable or environmentally friendly options in my business. The backing cards will be printed on recycled card, everything will be packed in a paper bag and sent in a recyclable cardboard box and sealed with paper tape.
This is the second Kickstarter campaign that I've organised for enamel pin designs and I'm fully aware that it can seem like a long process, especially if you pledge right at the beginning of the campaign! Here is a rough timeline of the process:
Pledging is open for 30 days and then if the campaign is successful, I will send out a survey to everyone who pledges, so that I know where to send your reward and so that you can let me know which designs you'd like. It also takes about two weeks for the funds to be processed by Kickstarter and sent to me. At which point, I will send all designs to be manufactured. Manufacturing can take up to four weeks and then I'll package all rewards up and send them out to you as soon as I can. If all goes to plan, rewards will be sent in the first half of November. I'll make sure to keep you updated, especially if there are any delays in manufacturing.
Where will the money go?
The majority of the money will go towards manufacturing 100 of each of the unlocked enamel pin designs, a small amount will go towards printing backing cards, buying postage and packaging and then a small amount goes towards Kickstarter fees.
I think I've covered everything, if you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you again for your support as always and I hope you love these designs as much as I do! Sian xx
Risks and challenges
If this campaign is successful, the pins, backing cards and any products that have been unlocked from the stretch goals will be sent to be manufactured as soon as the funds become available. The manufacturing process could take up to four weeks and may experience delays, in which case, I will keep everyone updated on progress.
I have had one other successful Kickstarter campaign, which received great feedback, so I look forward to this one becoming a reality too.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
