Hi, I’m Matteo from Shunu Records, and together with the post-rock Chicago band Rocket Miner we’ve recently published their newest album called “The Long Goodbye”. Combining elements of shoegaze, heavy riffs, classical themes and other varying elements into their sweeping instrumentals, Rocket Miner has been receiving praise for their songs and live shows from day one. "I am filled with shame at not discovering them earlier" - brutalitopia.com wrote. The Long Goodbye’s sound has been compared to Post-Rock stalwarts Explosions in the Sky and Russian Circles. It’s definitely a recommended album if you also like This Will Destroy You.
The album has been released on digital format only on May 4 2018, gaining solid preaches by the fans: you can listen for yourself on your favorite platform. But both we and the band strongly believe that the perfect way of listening to the album is on a vinyl record: the ritual of settling the needle down on the groove, sitting down and listening to what “The Long Goodbye” has to tell you is of fundamental importance to enhance the art behind the music, and it’s something that’s simply lacking on an app.
But pressing a record is an expensive process, so that’s why we’re asking your help to make this happen. Backing this Kickstarter will help us create a solid base to finance the pressing of the album.
First of all: all the expenses are already accounted for in the goal we’ve set. That means if we reach our goal, the album will be pressed. If we don’t, your credit card will not be charged. No money will be transferred from you unless the project reaches its goal.
Shunu Records is a label that is fixated with quality: that’s why we’ve been partnering with GZ Media for so many years. GZ is the biggest vinyl pressing plant in the world, and also one of the oldest still in activity with its first record pressed in 1951. The pressing quality, the work of their mastering engineers is unrivalled so when it comes to manufacturing something so difficult, so sensitive as a vinyl recording, we only trust their expertise in delivering absolute quality.
The album will be a single LP, 140 gr., black. Each copy of the record will receive a free digital-download code redeemable through Bandcamp.
If we get to clear our goal quickly we will upgrade everybody's copy to a green coloured vinyl through a stretch-goal. If successfully funded, the record will also go on sale in brick-and-mortar stores and online like on Amazon, but its price will be considerably higher than the special price we’re offering to our backers.
When we started planning out this project, we stumbled on a few Kickstarter limitations on how to manage shipping fees. We got to a point we basically had to choose if raising shipping fees for everybody - even if your actual fees were much lower! - or to limit our Kickstarter to a couple of countries only.
We decided to go another path completely, and to use Backerkit to manage shipping fees.If you've ever backed a Kickstarter project in the past, you might have used their service. Backerkit is a respected crowdfunding tool that will help us charging you more accurate shipping fees based on your specific order and your location, making it more fair to everybody to back this project.
Backerkit is an external tool, this means that Kickstarter will only charge you for the cost of your chosen reward. Any shipping cost will later be managed and charged separately by Backerkit. Don't worry though! It's easy to use and you will just need to check your email after this project will be funded to find your personalised link and all the instructions on how to complete your order.
In the meanwhile, if you want to estimate your shipping fees, here's a nice table that should help you with it.
If you have questions, we'll be more than happy to answer you at firstname.lastname@example.org!
- At the end of the crowdfunding, you'll be charged by Kickstarter for the reward you've chosen
- After that, you will receive via email a link to your Backerkit survey where you will be able to specify your delivery address, your t-shirt size, if you want add-ons, etc.
- After the Backerkit survey will be complete, your card will be charged to cover your shipping fees, plus any other add-on you might have chosen.
Together with the album, you will be able to also choose a Rocket Miner t-shirt with this brand new design created for this Kickstarter and for the new gigs of the band.
The design will be printed on water-based ink on a Gildan Heavy Cotton t-shirt:
- Water-based inks so that the print will remain soft and light on the skin
- Gildan is the most used brand by rock bands merchandising. All their shirts come pre-shrunk, so that the size you'll buy will remain the same even after washing in the washing-machine.
- Heavy Cotton is their heavy model. 100% cotton, 180gr. so it's heavy but not massive. The shirt is quite resistant, it has a comfortable fit and it's slightly longer than the average shirt.
- Girlies are here! Yes, you will also be able to choose a ladies-only fit which is more comfortable for girls!
You can consult our size-chart here to see what's the appropriate size for you. Remember to check your preferred model and size in the backer kit that you will receive
After the Kickstarter completion, you'll receive a link to your Backerkit survey where you'll confirm your shipping address, your shirt size, your shipping fees, etc.
This will also give you access to a special store for all our backers, where you will find our current catalog with a special discount! You'll be able to add more music to your order, while saving on the shipping fees!
This is our estimated timeline for the completion of this project:
22 Jan - 21 Feb: Kickstarter running
24 Feb - 8-12 weeks: GZ Media pressing of the LP + t-shirt printing
15 days: Logistics and shipping of the packages to our backers
As you can see the biggest question mark is how long it will take to GZ Media to press the albums. They usually fulfil their duties in about 8 weeks, but we got reports it sometimes took them up to 12 weeks.
If everything goes according to planning and GZ respect their usual delivery turnaround, you should be able to receive your album around the beginning of May. In the worst case, if GZ would take 12 weeks to complete their operations, you will receive your album at the beginning of June.
We will keep you updated throughout the whole operation, so you'll be able to follow the completion of the project.
Drop us a message at email@example.com or on Facebook Messenger for any question or inquiry regarding your order, either during the kickstarter, during the production phase, or after you've received your copy. We’ll do our best to solve your issue, or offer a refund if necessary! Or…write us if you just want to say hi! :)
Risks and challenges
There are no inherent risks associated with this project. All the expenses are accounted for in our business plan: this means that if the project gets funded, your credit card will run and you will receive your chosen reward, if the project doesn't get funded nothing will happen and your credit card will not be run.
The only challenge of this project will be respecting the delivery schedule: in fact, GZ Media has a very high turnaround so the pressing of the album might get delayed by a couple of weeks, which we've already accounted for in our time planning. Another challenge will be in the logistics to respect their schedule: the records must be moved from GZ in Czech Republic to Shunu Records in Italy where they will be then shipped to customers around the world.
We've accounted for all the possible delays in our planning, but something can still go wrong. We will anyway keep you updated at each step.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
