The Show + Tell Show is a Brooklyn based film project celebrating the things we all treasure and the stories behind them. Based on the "show&tell" exercise that kids do in school, the aim of this project will be to compile an online video archive where people of all ages and backgrounds, the world over, can present that which they treasure most.
What would you show? What would your neighbor show? What if you were a woman who lives in a small village in the mountains? Or a war veteran? What if you were the richest person in a distant country? What if you owned nothing at all? What would you show if you were blind? What if you were 100 years old? Heirlooms, trophies, pets, a machine your grandfather invented, a drawing you did in the fourth grade, something you bought, found or stole, maybe it's a secret sailor knot and how it will come undone... the possibilities are endless and the stories can only be unique.
Bringing a camera to people that normally wouldn't have the means or the ability to film, edit, or upload a video is an important part of the project that will present voices, stories, characters, and perspectives that could otherwise be lost. The money would help make this possible by covering travel expenses to these places, as well as equipment and production of the film.
More media savvy Show + Tellers will also be able to upload content they shoot themselves to the project website. There will be a curatorial process in order to keep the content short, relevant and true to the "show + tell" format. No commercials or advertising will be allowed. The final product will be a book and a Documentary showcasing the videos.
