WHAT IS THIS?
This a brand-new steampunk adventure series whose first story will be told in three 48-page issues. Our hero, Dr. Quentin Bowlsby, or "Q" for short, falls into a mystery after he is asked to retrieve an item from a train crash by gov't agents. Once there, however he uncovers evidence of the presence of an old adversary, piquing his interest in the case. One thing leads to another and soon he's...well you're just gonna have to read it.
This Kickstarter campaign is the to get the ball rolling, so to speak. Well, that's not entirely true. The ball started rolling well over a year ago, when we sprouted the idea for the story, but this is the first time we are seeking outside funding to pay our creative team and print the book. Depending on how much we can generate here, we can possibly fully fund all three 48-page books with just this one campaign, that would be a perfect world.
WHO ARE WE?
The creative team for this inaugural installment of "The Steamworld Chronicles" is as follows:
Story and script are by Steven Hoveke & Mike Scigliano. The interior artwork and all conceptual designs are courtesy of Ben Risbeck. Coloring for the artwork is by way of Jeff Balke. Leaving the all-important lettering of the project in the able hands of John J. Hill.
Here's an example of the artwork we are producing : Page 11
UPDATE! We have our first color page just in time for the big final push! SEE! We told you it's gonna be in color!
More info about each member of the creative team can be found at our website by clicking the link below.
This first issue of the "The Steamworld Chronicles" is the launching point for a planned series of adventures. This first issue of a planned three 48-page issues will tell the tale we have sub-titled "The Constantine Quest"
Future tales will tell of more adventures of Dr. Quentin Bowlsby, his longtime friend and boss Clifford Weston and the ever expanding cast of characters. We have big plans for this world. Several story outlines have already been scribbled down and merely await the completion of this one. The world which we have created is rich and deep, and one day we hope to invite others to come create in it as well.
What we are raising the money for? Our artists will LOVE being paid to do what they love to do. Our Kickstarter funding amount is set to cover our creative costs, to have the artwork drawn, colored and lettered. It DOESN'T include the writers, Steve and Mike, who are foregoing getting paid for the work done on this project until the artwork is paid for. If our funding goal is met, whatever overfunding occurs will go towards the production of Issue #2, and eventually #3. Only THEN, will Steve and Mike see any money out of this. It's really the only way. They can't draw this thing, and without art, they might as well be writing books.
Our hopes are that the book will get picked up by a publisher and help us to offset the creative and printing costs, but we are fully aware of the wealth of amazing projects there are out there and if we can't get the help we need from an established publisher, we're ready to publish it independently. We think that once word gets out about the first issue, we won't have to worry about this problem for long, but that's our opinion. We may be biased.
One other thing, please check out our stretch goals for the campaign below. They have been designed to allow us to give more to each person who donates, as the funded amount rises. As an example, If we reach $20k, then every person who pledged $10 to get issue #1 will automatically get a copy of Issue #2...no extra charge. This is designed with the idea that the more people who everyone can get to pledge support for us, the more everyone will benefit.
So, please pass the link around and everyone wins.

When we originally pitched our idea to Kickstarter, they thought our stretch goals were a little vague and wanted us to keep them hidden until further along in the campaign. As we approach our funding goal, I think it's high time we release them.
The concept is simple. The more people who support and pledge, the more stuff EVERYBODY gets.
Here's the basic idea. When we started out we were looking for just under $10k. Which is $10 x 1000 people. Simple, right? So those 1000 people all get the first issue for their $10 pledge. Now, here's where it gets awesome. IF those 1000 people could each talk JUST ONE other person into spending $10, that's another 1000 people, and another $10k. At that point, everybody who has pledged $10 or more, gets not only part 1, but they get part 2 as well, for FREE. One more step, if the 2000 people who have pledged $10 each can get another 1000 people between them, then we have $30k and all 3 books are fully funded and EVERYBODY gets all 3 books (upon completion) for JUST $10!!
That was our masterplan. Now , I doubt at this stage we can double our pledges, but it's worth a shot, right? So go tell your friends and have them tell their friends. And honestly, we don't need 3000 people because you now someone will want some cool sketches or prints and those pledges count as well so, if someone pledges for one of the sketchbook rewards, that's like 7 people pledging for $10!! It'll add up fast, so get those Facebook and Twitter accounts rolling! EVERYBODY WINS!!

WALTER SIMONSON'S COVER ART _FINAL
ARTWORK UPDATE #2
Wanted to add here the images I posted in an earlier update. Since a lot of people won't bother to look or even know to look for them. ALSO, backers are getting access to some other stuff that is only visible to them as far as production sketches and advance images from Walter Simonson's work.
This is the book that all backers will get if we break $15K. It includes the first 23 pages of the book in pencil form and fully lettered. If that goal is reached, then we will be sending these out by year's end as a special advance gift to our loyal backers
Risks and challenges
We waited to have a good solid start on the book before we launched this campaign. At launch, we have over half of the first 47-page issue already penciled and inked. We have Walter Simonson's cover on the way and will post images soon. We have our creative team working steadily to maintain the flow necessary to produce the work in a timely fashion and have our book finished by year's end to ensure we hit our delivery date, or if possible, ship it earlier than stated.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
