We have been writing and playing surf-tinged, jangly guitar pop that combines all of our favorite influences for just about 2 years now.
In that time we've played countless shows here in Austin, TX, and have toured up to NYC and back. We have self released a 5 song EP (you can listen to it in the player below) and will soon release two new songs on a 7" Flexidisc with help from our friends at Punctum Press in Brooklyn, New York.
Teaser video for our upcoming 7" single:
This summer, we want to record and release our first full length album.
This collection of songs has been culled from a creative period of about a year. In that time we have traded and rearranged each others demos, learned these songs as a live band and played them countless times, re-arranged and "re-demoed" each song in its final form. What started as a group of 20 or more demos has been narrowed down to 12 fully formed songs that fit into a cohesive listening experience that expresses our love of hook-laden, guitar driven pop music. We've taken inspiration from our favorite parts of British Invasion, Surf, and early 90's indie-pop and made something truly our own.
We have the songs, we have a producer, and a label will release the album once it's finished. What we need to connect the dots is money to pay for studio time and to promote the album on the radio, in print, and online once it's finished.
We are asking for $6,000.
Since we are lucky enough have a producer/engineer on board to record the album, and a label to press it to vinyl, our remaining needs are pretty simple.
$5,000- Studio time to record, mix, and master the album.
We've talked to Danny (the producer and engineer for the project) extensively about our budget, and have the utmost confidence that this will buy us enough studio time to make the album we hear in our heads. We've been meeting with Danny to discuss preproduction (talking about the sound we want in specific, technical terms, as well as the approach and structure we will employ in the studio), and have been practicing these songs with an attention to detail that will ensure that we hit the ground running on the first day of recording.
$1,000- Promotion on radio, in print, and online.
The remaining $1k will be put into buying promotion for the album. We will put together a smart, effective EPK (electronic press kit) for our DIY promotion campaign (focusing mostly on blogs), but the backing of a music promotion agency on college radio and local print will make our own efforts that much more effective.
Risks and challenges
The main obstacle we face is running out of studio time before we get everything recorded, or get the exact sounds we want. We have accounted for this in our budget, as $5000 should give us a few days to spare in the recording and mixing process. If we complete the album under budget, all remaining recording money will be added to the $1000 allotted for radio/internet/print promotion of the album.
