Each of us belongs to at least one race, and that's complicated enough but... what happens when you have more than one?
How would you fill out your census if you were a Mestizo person in Peru? How would you do your hair if you were both Black and Asian? What would it be like to be both human and alien, meeting another member of your own species for the first time in space? Or to be a young girl who finds that she can move between the human and celestial realms of Judaic lore? And what do all of these stories have in common?
Electrum is an alloy formed by mixing the elements of gold and silver, and mixed-race people are just as precious! We are overjoyed to bring you our newest anthology Electrum: 26 brand-new fiction and non-fiction comics that explore the joy, the insecurities, and the unique strengths that come with being mixed-race from the perspective of dozens of artists from all around the world.
Over a year in the making, Electrum is the first-ever comics anthology entirely produced and created by mixed-race artists. In this book, you'll hear our own voices in a variety of art styles and genres, from fantasy to history, from science fiction to autobiography, and much more.
These stories don't shy away from difficult subjects. You'll be reading about origins and celebrations, but also internalized fears, racism and insecurities. But each and every story in this volume illustrates the way we've learned to draw strength from our challenges, and how we choose to embrace our bright future.
We are so proud to bring you all of these stories... and more!
In addition to the book, you can pick up some great rewards, including a bookplate dedicated to the recipient of the book, a double-plated enamel pin celebrating the mixed-race identity, and even a limited number of sketches and custom art from your favorite contributors.
At the ◈ FLYING HIGH ◈ tier you'll receive an original 5x7 drawing from one of our contributing artists (including Der-shing Helmer, Georgia Henderson, Julia Hutchinson, Iasmin Omar Ata, Lara Kim, Yến Quach and Charlene Soto), or you can choose one of our special custom commissions from the very limited ◈ COMMISSION TIER ◈ options. We may be adding extra artists to the commission tiers as the campaign progresses, so be sure to check back!

◈... who knows how far we can go when we work together?
Electrum is for everyone. While the primary purpose of the book is to inspire and celebrate mixed-race readers of all ages, we also intended Electrum to be shared with the friends and family of mixed-race people, and all comic lovers regardless of background. We are an inclusive anthology that uplifts our voices without silencing others.
Many of us who pursue relationships beyond the bounds of our own race may also have (or be planning to have) children who combine the qualities of both parents! We live in a multicultural world, and this book will help build empathy and guide non-mixed readers to understand our diverse and growing demographic.
The artists of Electrum are among the best artists working today. We come from countries all around the world and from a variety of races, religions, genders and occupations. We run the gamut from seasoned Eisner and Ignatz award-winners and industry professionals to first-time contributors. What binds us together is our love of comics and our passion for sharing our stories with readers old and new!

The Alloy Anthology aims to explore complicated and intersectional identities through visual storytelling, starting with our first volume, Electrum. We hope to inspire future generations and celebrate the complexities inherent to being human ♥
Thanks very much for taking a look at our project! With your help we hope to make this dream a reality. Special thanks to my co-editor Kiku Hughes for her hard work and partnership, to Lucia Retamales for her work on our video (and music credit to "Finale" by Eveningland), to Christina McKenzie (production technician) and Rhiannon R. S. (prepress technician) for their hopeful future work on this book, and to Taneka Stotts for support and friendship.
Risks and challenges
This is my first anthology! However, all of the book's content is complete, and we are just awaiting funding in order to proceed to the next step of prepping our files for print. Our experienced print team has many books under their belt rand we are all excited to get this book made.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
