About this project
1.4lb of pure, extra-fine grade Australian Merino wool fiber in a 7-gauge knit. Not blended with synthetics, just a healthy serving of the good stuff.
Made of 100% extra-fine grade 19-micron count Australian merino wool, The Mark One Sweater feels like cashmere next to your skin but is durable enough to withstand heavy wear.
Tailored to fit the active man: slim through the arms and torso, with a non-elastic waistband to reduce the frumpy 'muffin effect' most sweaters exhibit.
Breathable: Wool naturally wicks away moisture, keeping you from getting sweaty when it's hot and preventing heat loss when it's cold.
Odor resistant: Unlike synthetics, wool efficiently releases sweat into the air so bacteria never gets the chance to form, keeping your sweater odor-free.
Durable: Due to its natural elasticity, wool fibers can be bent thousands of times without breaking, lasting significantly longer than cotton or synthetics.
Versatile: Soft as cashmere, but significantly more durable, Merino wool is the perfect balance of luxury and practicality.

Ours is the story of a group of college friends who — in the fall of 2012 — came across an old picture of Dartmouth ’68 Ed Heald in an iconic collegiate piece: the class numeral sweater. A sweater so well-made that when Heald showed it to us at Dartmouth Homecoming, it was still in perfect condition. A sweater that embodied quality craftsmanship and a classic, effortless style rarely seen in today’s world of frothy trends and fast fashion.
It is with those values in mind that we undertook our first project, to bring back the class year sweater for our friends and classmates. We made our first batch of sweaters the winter after graduation, and they sold like wildfire. One year later, our dedication to high caliber craftsmanship has earned us the trust of thousands of customers around the world. And now we’re applying what we’ve learned about knitwear to the Mark One Sweater, a piece that combines classic collegiate styling with modern manufacturing and quality materials. Come join us as we rethink knitwear.

Risks and challenges
We spent the last year designing, sourcing, and distributing thousands of luxury collegiate sweaters for our friends and classmates, so we’ve been around the block a few times.
We’ve squared away all the pieces — materials are sourced, contracts are signed, patterns are approved, production is booked, import and customs are arranged, and logistics and fulfillment scenarios are planned. We recognize that it is always possible that unforeseen delays in any of these pieces may impact our ability to deliver promptly. We have accounted for this by building in a cushion in our delivery timelines and, should we perceive any further risk of delay during the production process, we will proactively communicate that to our supporters.
Our modern mill in Beijing makes sweaters for high-end European brands and is equipped with state-of-the art, high-efficiency knitting machines and has the capacity to produce tens of thousands of sweaters every month. We personally visited the mill and had lunch with the knitting technicians back in March. They are awesome and run a really solid operation.
Our goal is to deliver earlier than promised.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
You'll be one of the first to get a Mark One Sweater when it ships this coming February (2014), PLUS you get a giftable Mark One Sweater product card and all those other goodies in that reward by Christmas (2013).
We’ll send you a survey to complete after the campaign is over where you can let us know what size and color you would like.
First, check out our size guide! We recommend ordering true to size -- i.e. if you're normally a medium, get a medium.
That being said, if you're at all unhappy with the fit after getting your Mark One Sweater, you can send it back to us for a FREE size exchange (we will cover your return shipping too!).
If you are an international backer, you pay for shipping to us and shipping on the way back is FREE.
Kickstarter only lets project makers set a flat shipping rate for the entire world so we set one on the higher end to cover backers in Asia and Africa.
Don't worry though, we don't want to charge you more than it costs us to ship; we will be refunding any difference in shipping costs when we go to actually ship your rewards. If shipping to your country is more than what we charged, we'll eat the difference.
Standard international shipping is via US Postal Service without tracking. We are happy to upgrade you to expedited shipping at cost. Backers are responsible for any customs or import duties.
We won't require any backers within the United States to pay for shipping, though you'll have an option at the end of the campaign to pitch in a few extra dollars if you'd like to help with that.
