I'm Devon Fiddler, the founder of SheNative Goods Inc. SheNative is a handbags, accessories and apparel company dedicated to empowering Indigenous women in Canada.
"SheNative was started out of my passion for fashion, my own negative experiences growing up as an Indigenous women and my exposure to entrepreneurship in my first job out of University. SheNative is a brand of gorgeous leather bags, accessories and apparel with a mission to empower Indigenous women and girls." - Devon Fiddler, Founder & Chief Changemaker
SheNative officially launched over 1 year ago, with the help of our last Crowdfunding Campaign launched on Indiegogo (see campaign here), loans, grants and business competitions.
Since then, we’ve received an amazing amount of support locally and nationally. We’ve also received an overwhelming amount of amazing ideas and thoughtful feedback from our first customers. Our products are minimal in design using traditional Indigenous beadwork to enhance our bags for cultural context, and using Indigenous art in our apparel collections. We want to take SheNative to the next level.
We are implementing feedback in terms of style, design, and our business model, by adding another tier of production. That’s right.... we are bringing production to Saskatchewan, and continuing to work with our Toronto based manufacturer. This will allow us to save money on shipping, help cut costs of production, and employ Indigenous talent to produce our goods.

We need to raise a minimum of $20,000 to get our new collection to production.
It's our priority to purchase the equipment needed and hire Indigenous talent to produce our goods in Saskatchewan, adding a second tier of production. Our goods are primarily produced in Toronto, so we will be saving a lot by having our bags made by local Indigenous talent. We plan on maintaining our relationship with our Toronto-based manufacturer and continuing to produce some of our goods there.
We are not stopping there! For every bag sold, we will be giving care packages to women in need. According to the Homeless Hub, Urban Indigenous people experience homelessness at a higher and disproportionate rate ranging from 20% - 50% of the total homeless population in major urban areas. Homelessness can be traced back to historical trauma, oppression, racism and discrimination. According to YWCA and NWAC, Aboriginal women who are homeless may have experienced family violence that led them to abandon their home, or they may have experienced the end of a marriage or common law relationship that has resulted in their being required to leave the family home.
We want to do our part, and give back to the most vulnerable women in Canada, starting by showing that we care.

WHY INDIGENOUS WOMEN? WHY SHENATIVE?
Indigenous women are among the most disadvantaged women in Canada. Almost two-thirds of Aboriginal female victims under the age of 35. Most victims of spousal violence did not report the incident to police. Indigenous women make up less than 5% of Canada's population, but they are four times more likely to be murdered or go missing than other Canadian women. At SheNative, we believe in a triple bottom line. People, Planet, Profit. We not only want to empower, we want to create an understanding society. Let's change publics’ perceptions surrounding Indigenous women. Let's hear her story directly from her and encourage a positive lifestyle.
