About this project
"Zydeco Breakfast" the beginning....
In 2007, Tom Uhl, the Director & Executive Producer of "Zydeco Breakfast", went to the Cafe des Amis in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana at 7:30am one Saturday morning to eat a great Cajun breakfast and listen and dance to Zydeco music played by a live band.
He had heard Buckwheat Zydeco some ten years before at a dance in New Mexico, but had forgotten how exciting the music was.
The music rocked his soul with its joyousness and uplifting quality and at 7:30 in the morning! The dancers were amazing and he had never seen anything like it.
That same weekend was the Festival International de Louisiane and that Saturday afternoon he had heard Donna Angelle play in an outdoor pavilion in Lafayette. Some of the same dancers were there, dancing outside to this music that was like an upbeat blues, with accordion.
In April of 2008, he was back again at the Zydeco Breakfast and by now he recognized some of the dancers by face and dance style. Once again, he was really moved by the beat and the joy and sexiness of the dancing. As he watched the faces of the dancers, the thought occurred to him “this is more than a party for these folk, this is like therapy”. His next thought was “how cool would it be to make a documentary film about this breakfast, with my son the cinematographer, Anders Uhl”? Call it Zydeco Breakfast: A bright spot in a troubled world”!
To him it seemed like a crazy idea! A 59 year old who had never made a film before get into a project, with what money and with no Hollywood backing? But the idea burned in him and so he said a prayer: “Bless it or Block, I’m good either way”. That's when doors started opening....
"Zydeco Breakfast" today....
And now here we are five years later and the film is almost complete!
In "Zydeco Breakfast", we feature current Zydeco musicians, such as Wayne Singleton, Horace Trahan, Donna Angelle, Joe Hall, Dennis Paul Williams, Earl "Washboard" Sally, Cedric Watson, Corey Ledet, Chubby Carrier and Geno Delafose. Everyone who is working on the project is excited to see the film being complete.
We are currently in the final stages of editing and will soon have the picture locked – meaning no more editing changes! After the film is picture locked, then it will go to Color Correcting and Sound Mastering. Once those stages are complete then the film will be ready for Film Festivals and Distribution!!
Currently, we are planning to have the film picture lock by November 1, 2012 and then it will premiere in Lafayette, LA during the Festival International de Louisiane in April, 2013.

Risks and challenges
The funds we raise with this Kickstarter campaign will help cover the costs of Post-Prodcution, Color Correcting and Sound Mastering, as well as licensing fees for specific recordings.
We have already been in touch with several people regarding Color Correcting and Sound Mastering and are currently getting estimates for these final stages of the film. The most challenging aspect of the film will be contacting record labels for specific songs: songs by the greats: Amede Ardoin, Clifton Chenier and Boozoo Chavis! We expect to have these challenges met by March, 2013.
Once all of the finishing stages of the film are met, then we will go to distribution. We are planning to have the film compete and ready to be distributed by April, 2013. All of the rewards will be sent out once the film is complete. Depending on the reward, people should receive their award no later than October 2013.
If we do not reach our goal with this campaign we will keep trying until we raise the monies needed.
We will never give up!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
