New backer information: A post funding period plan!
Hey! After the funding period ends, I'll be setting up an online store to allow everyone to pick up more expansion decks. Backers will get first dibs, and at reduced pricing.
Additionally, I'm planning on printing traditional playing cards with the Terrible Hot Dogs theme. These will also be available on the store, available to backers first.
These French Fries Are Terrible Hot Dogs is a party card game where players must lie to tell the truth, and convince others that their card is something else, more specifically, cards drawn by other people. Players are encouraged to be clever and to speak with a silver tongue!
During each round of the game, one person will act as the Judge and will take a card from the deck and place it face up. That card is the Target Card. Everyone else then takes a card from their hand and places that card face down. Next, each player must try and convince the Judge that their card is the Target Card by using true information about the card that they just placed down. The act of convincing the Judge is known as The Pitch.
Let's say Bob is the Judge, and he flips over the Target Card "Hot Dogs." Susan then decides to player her "French Fries" card and places it face down. During her pitch, she can say:
“Well, mine's really good plain, but people usually put toppings on it, like ketchup. Others might add chili or cheese. Oh, and you really don't want to eat it cold, it's much better warm."
Once everyone is finished making their pitch, the Judge picks the person who they feel had the best pitch, and declares that person the winner of the round. Players then discard the cards used during that round. Everyone but the Judge and the round winner draws a new card to replace the one that they just played. A new Judge is chosen, and a new round beings.
A winner is determined once a person discards all of their cards and says "These French Fries Are Terrible Hot Dogs!"
The title of the game originated during a gathering at a local food and drink establishment which happened to sell pierogies. Someone ordered a plate and, unfortunately, quickly came to the conclusion that the pierogies were very underwhelming. Instead of casting them aside, another person decided to take the pierogies as their own. The second owner of the pierogies declared that they weren't as bad as they were made out to be, to which the first person replied:
"Well, if you told me that this was a potato based dish, I would say that they are okay, but if you told me they were pierogies, I would say that they're awful."
Another party then chimed in saying:
"Yeah, that makes sense. If someone gave you french fries, and told you 'Here, have some hot dogs!', you may try them and say 'These french fries are terrible hot dogs!'"
Finally, one other person said:
"That needs to be made into a game."
Everything counts! In addition to a giant 'Thank You!', you'll also have your name on the supporter list on the web page. A $1 pledge would make you a 'French Fries' backer, while a $5 pledge would make you an 'Executive French Fries' backer.

This would be an extraordinary tier to pledge at, and backers at this level would receive a "Thank You" of the highest levels. If you ever find yourself in The City of Brotherly Love, and have a night to spare, we can have a game night with you as the guest of honor. French fries will be eaten, hot dogs will be consumed, and games will be played for hours on end.
Backers who pledge a minimum of $40 will receive at least 2 expansion decks. The current available expansions are:
Kickstarter will help get the game out into the world! A fully funded Kickstarter will allow the game to go into production. It will also assist with the extra cost required to make the game available to the general public.
If this project is successfully funded, the game goes into full production mode. The methods for printing the cards, stickers, and art, as well as other production methods, have already been established. After the orders are placed and delivered, they can be sorted and shipped out to backers.
Because I would like for the cards to be used in a number of ways, I plan to set up a forum and/or wiki set up where people can discuss alternative ways they choose to play the game, whether it's combining them with other tools, or using just the cards. Again, using the cards for more than just the normal game is strongly encouraged.
Additionally, there are plans to allow people to purchase the game, or expansion packs, through an online store.
If the funding is unsuccessful, many tears will be shed, the sky will turn dark, and there will be a world wide shortage of french fries.
If anyone has any questions, feel free to send an email to email@example.com or tweet me at @ShawnPierre.
Risks and challenges
The largest contributing factors to any sort of issues would potentially be problems with shipments or proper printing.
Because a few decks and other designs have already been printed, it is very likely that any setback will not significantly delay providing backers with their pledge rewards. A majority of the parties involved in the production are people who have already proven their reliability.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
With the normal rules created for the game, you can't. I've been fortunate enough to have play sessions where people aren't out to take others down, but that may not be the case with every session. However, there are ways you can try and accommodate those who want to take everyone else down.
1. Have one judge for the entire game. Their job is to only pick the card that has the best pitch. It's actually how I run tournaments for the game. Either one person, or a group of people, act as judges.
2. Everyone has 10 seconds to write down their pitch on a paper. The person to the left of the judge reads all of the pitches. It'll add some anonymity to the pitches, so the judge doesn't know if the winning pitch is from the person in first, or in third.
3. Tell your friends/family to lighten up.
4. Add some sort of your own rule to the game. I mentioned this in a previous update, but I'm working on different ways to play the game, and actively encouraging players to create their own rules, or even their own ways of playing the game. If you think my rules are awful, or unfair (I think they are because I've *never* won a game), then think of your own.
I'm in the middle of creating a forum and a wiki where people and think of new ways to play and share it with others. This way, we can all share ideas with each other.
