About the Project
Marcin is the first person in the world, who in just three days and with a budget of £76 ($125) has managed to create a fully functioning, Android-based VR goggles.
The headset provides excellent graphics, low latency, and what’s the most important it supports all PC games with DirectX versions 9 to 11 and head-tracking feature using an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) orientation sensor on your smartphone.

Delivering low cost virtual reality with shareVR!
"My main objective is to develop inexpensive software that anyone could use to create his own VR goggles and enjoy the awesome graphics offered by the latest PC games. Expected deadline for developing the software would be the end of 2014, and its price would be only £10!" - Marcin Grygiel

We decided to develop shareVR, a program that allows to connect a PC or Mac with smartphones running Android, iOS and Windows Phone operating systems.

To create goggles it takes a screen with resolution of at least (High Definition) 720p, support for hardware acceleration of video and an orientation sensor using gyroscope and accelerometer. Please check if your model is compatible.

Find and buy the best headset for your smartphone. There are plenty of good quality headsets featuring lens adjustment mechanism, from cheap as Google Cardboard (£3-11) to more expensive ones as Chinavasion Revelation (£16), Durovis Dive (£46), Altergaze (£50), Homido VR (£54) or vrAse (£69+) with lens adjustment mechanism. Please note that the Samsung Gear VR is NOT compatible!

What to expect from a Super AMOLED / True HD IPS+ display

We recommend to use a 1080p or higher resolution True HD IPS+ display for the VR goggles. Please note that the Oculus Rift DK2 and the Samsung Gear VR are using a Super AMOLED display for their VR headsets.
We need your help to develop shareVR and grow the community.
Let's work together to make shareVR truly great. And together we can share Virtual Reality to the World!

Risks and challenges
"The biggest risk a person can take is to do nothing."
Some projects can encounter unexpected hurdles when going from prototype to production. As with any innovative project, we face several risks and challenges. The primary risk is the lack of support from games companies. We need games that support head tracking.
Also, support for Side-by-Side (SBS) Horizontal 3D could be very helpful to reduce latency in games (a good example is Crysis 2 Maximum Edition).
There is a small chance, the software could be delayed in customs.
One last thing, a good quality headset featuring lens adjustment mechanism for smartphones should cost no more than £20. Come on, Niterider it is not rocket science, only a piece of plastic, two leases and a goggles' strap! These companies are charging peoples £50 or more, this is simply unbelievable!
