Thank you for taking some time to look at our page. We are Drew Rosas and Nick Sommer, two enthusiastic filmmakers with a dream to create our new project, Shangri-L.A., and original comedy series.
Filmmaking has always been our passion and we are working our assets off to make this dream into a reality. But we need your help! Please take a moment to watch our video above and read more about our project below. If you like what you see, we would love to have you join our team by backing this project and spreading the word.
Thank you and much love,
Drew and Nick
Using the city of Los Angeles as a canvas, Shangri-L.A. explores ideas of success, freedom and the Hollywood dream in this original comedy series from filmmakers Drew Rosas and Nick Sommer.
Shangri-L.A. follows a cast of characters struggling to find their own slice of paradise while surviving in the concrete jungle of urban Los Angeles. In the Tibetan realm, Shangri-La is a mythical paradise, a hidden utopia travelers attempt to find that may or may not exist. In the context of Los Angeles, Shangri-L.A. is a place people go when trying to find their own utopia by chasing the Hollywood dream, a paradise to some, and an unobtainable goal to others. This is the impetus for our upcoming online series.
WHO WE ARE
Filmmakers Nick Sommer and Drew Rosas are teaming up again for another wild filmmaking ride. The Milwaukee natives have been collaborating on film projects for nearly 10 years. Their past project include three independently produced feature films. Blood Junkie (2010) - Billy Club (2013) - Pester (2014)
After producing three award-winning feature films on shoe-string budgets and surviving the gauntlet of film festivals, sales agents, contracts and distribution deals, the filmmaking duo felt like there was a tragic disconnect separating their creative content from their film’s audience. They reevaluated their priorities and developed and new concept that aims to bypass industry hurdles and revitalize the creator / viewer experience.
WHAT IT TAKES
We are pulling together every favor we have to make this project as cheap as possible. We are dedicating our time for free to a project that we love and believe in. We are covering all the man-hours to write, shoot and edit this show at no cost but we still need to raise enough cash to cover our hard material costs.
The Shangri-L.A. team is challenging the limits of low-budget filmmaking by creating 11 episodes on a micro-budget of $12,000. To achieve this goal we are asking for your support.
Risks and challenges
Our Kickstarter funding played an integral part in the financing of our last feature film project (Billy Club). We finished the project and successfully fulfilled all the perks to our backers, but it took longer to complete than expected. So this time we are streamlining our production process and releasing the final project online so our backers will receive their perks much quicker.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
