100 BACKERS! Bookplate reveal and an original art opportunity!
I've just returned from a weekend at GAMMA.CON to discover that this campaign has shot past 100 backers, and is now less than $1,250 shy of its funding target! We are amazingly close to funding this book. I can't believe it.
In case you've never seen it before, here's the automated email that Kickstarter sends out to project creators when their campaign hits 100 backers.
While I don't intend to kidnap you in a convoy of buses, nor attempt to send you pizza via parcel post, I do have a pretty cool announcement to make in order to commemorate this milestone. As promised, I'm going to reveal some details about the Kickstarter-exclusive bookplate that all backers will be receiving with their books.
(Digital backers will receive a digital bookplate)
To produce the artwork for the bookplate, I commissioned the talents of Australian comics artist and stalwart Darren Close. If you recognise the name, you probably know that Darren is best known for creating the iconic Australian Killeroo comics.
But what you might not know is that Darren hired me to write a short comic way back in 2012, and (as the payment for this work pre-dated royalties for The Lesser Evil) it was the first money I ever received making comics.
I'm thrilled to be in the position to return the favour and hire Darren to produce the artwork for this bookplate.
Triumviratus is a project that wouldn't - couldn't - exist without the relationships and connections I've made during my career in the comics industry, and it's fitting that the wonderful guest artists I hired to produce artwork for Triumviratus have ties - in one way or another - to my past creative work.
Without further ado, here's the amazing piece of art that Darren produced, showing our heroine Mirelda, determined to save the world with just a sword in hand.
Although the rest of the bookplate design is yet to be finalised (borders, fonts, swirly flourishy bits, etc), I think you'll agree with me that this is a pretty striking and emotive piece of art, and is going to look amazing as a bookplate.
But that reveal isn't all we've got on offer today. I'm going to be giving one lucky backer the chance to get Darren's original artwork, hand-signed by the artist himself, added to their pledge.
All you have to do is be the first backer to comment on this update saying "I want Darren Close's original art for $100!"
The first backer to claim this artwork will then be given a chance to manually up their pledge by $100 to lock it in (this price includes worldwide shipping, even for those currently backing a digital-only tier). And when the campaign ends, their pledge will include a one-of-a-kind piece of Triumviratus memorabilia.
Will it be you?
