Our Kickstarter Project –
The goal of our project is to produce enough of our unique molecule and blotter art iron-on patches in all of our current designs so that our company can meet the continuing demand for our patches from retail and wholesale customers, our family. This would bring our business into a more stable and sustainable place within the psychedelic community. We currently have produced 3.5-inch patches of the LSD, DMT, and Psilocybin molecules, and also 5-inch patches of famous blotter art designs, the Albert Hofmann Jubilee/Bicycle Day Memorial print, and the classic Mad Hatter Blotter design.
This project will help us to re-produce these patches, and also to introduce two new designs to the set of molecules; MDMA, and THC, both of which have been highly requested over the past year and a half we’ve been making the molecule patches. We want to produce 1000 patches of each molecule, MDMA, THC, DMT, LSD, and Psilocybin, and 500 patches each of the Mad Hatter and Bicycle Day images. One of the fun things about the patches, is that they are discrete, no one will know what the design represents, a few may know it is a molecule of some kind, but how many will look at the structure and be able to determine the specific molecule from a glance?
Because this project is based on the buying power of the community, we are able to offer pre-production prices that are lower than ever before, and may not be seen again, simply due to the high order volume this will generate. It makes our production costs significantly lower, allowing us to pass the savings to those who help co-create the dream. In addition to extremely low prices, because of the bulk buying, you have the ability to Mix-and-Match patch designs. This means if you want to order 100 patches, and get 20 of each design (LSD, MDMA, THC, DMT, Psilocybin), or any combination you choose – we will be able to do that for you! This is something that we cannot even get ourselves from the embroidery company that makes them for us – we are limited to buying patches one design at a time for a flat price. So this Kickstarter Project enables us all to get the lowest possible prices, and also to offer special mix-and-match deals, as seen in the Rewards Sections.
We have tried to create this Kickstarter project so that it ends with enough time to have the patches produced, delivered and mailed out to the contributors well in advance of the Holiday season. We believe we can have the patches created and in your hands by December 10, 2011. For individuals, this means that you can get a great deal on holiday shopping for your like-minded friends and family. Be original and get something no one else will have this holiday season. To date, only about 100 to 200 of each design have been produced, meaning that the people receiving patches through this project will be among the first in the world to own these. For stores, retail shops, or festival vendors, this means you will have these unique patches in time for the holiday shoppers.
- About the Patches
One day, walking down Shakedown Street, the name for psychedelic vending villages that pop up at music festivals all over the USA, I saw that some of the vendors had really cool iron-on patches. In keeping with producing only items that are only available through Shamanic Harmonics, I knew I would need to create our own unique iron-on patch designs. After looking through my art, I settled on using the molecules themselves as the designs. This turned out to be a lot more work than expected! After sending the artwork to at least 20, and up to maybe 30 different custom embroidery companies, I finally found one that was able to produce exactly what I wanted at a very high quality.
I first ordered the LSD molecule patches. They were so popular I quickly added Psilocybin and DMT. The patches became one of our most popular items and at festivals would lead to a constant stream of purchases at our vending booth – at a recent major summer music festival, we ran out of LSD patches, and that stream died down to a trickle; but over 50 people left their contact information to get in touch as soon as more became available. People walking by saw the the patches and that brought them and their friends into our booth, and even helped us to sell our other items as well. The problem with the patches is that the costs to produce each design are high and must be paid up front and all at once. With any of the art I can produce myself, this is not an issue, but keeping an adequate stock of patches for retail sales can be difficult, many times I have at least one patch design out-of-stock. Having enough for wholesale sales is next to impossible, but would really bring us to the next level, letting us spread the art far and wide at reasonable prices.
To date, we've sent molecule and blotter art patches all over the world including Japan, Estonia, Argentina, Mexico, Canada, London, The Netherlands, Germany, and beyond.
Costs to Produce the Patches –
When we order patches, we are limited to ordering each design separately, so if we want multiple designs, we have to order at least 100 patches of each design to make it cost effective. This has made it prohibitively expensive for us to create the full line of designs that the market demands, and even harder for us to keep in-stock all the designs we have already produced. This means that we cannot meet the market demand for our patches due to start up costs. Without YOU, this dream cannot happen.
Community Supported Art –
Many people are familiar with the concept of CSA’s, Community Supported Agriculture – where the community comes together and purchases “shares” of a local farm’s harvest, before anything has been planted for the season. The money that comes from the purchase of shares goes to buy seeds, tilling equipment, pay for farm labor, etc. So the community shares in both the costs of the production, and the many benefits of locally produced foods. However with CSA’s there is always the chance of a bad season or crop failure due to any number of reasons, so the money paid into the CSA is a wager of sorts, hoping for a bountiful harvest for all to share. With our Kickstarter project, we are viewing this as Community Supported Art, a CSA without the risks. We’ve done all the hard work of preparing for production, sourced all our materials, and suppliers, and with our CSA, you pledge support for our dream, and if it is funded, then you end up with unique community-produced and supported art, and we have a more stable foothold in this shaky economy, helping us to create sustainability. There are no worries of a “bad season.”
Interest in Kickstarter –
Our interest in Kickstarter first came through other projects we were inspired by, and contributed to funding (Like the Brotherhood of the Screaming Abyss, Better Living Through Chemistry and a few others). Recently listening to an audio book of Douglas Rushkoff’s Life, Inc. and watching the PBS special Fixing the Future, I became interested in participating in alternative economies, that support bottom-up development and creation of value. Kickstarter is a way that I saw we could obtain funding for our dream while working within the psychedelic community. The community can both support and benefit from our vision, while at the same time, strengthening a family/community-owned business, and helping us to achieve sustainability and longevity. Instead of looking for vampiric capital loans from the centralized banking institutions that have helped us as a people to get to this low point in the economy, Shamanic Harmonics has chosen to go to the community that we both belong to, and help co-create at the same time. This removes the mediation between us and our community – now we can be supported by our own and not be forced to participate in predatory lending practices of our current financial system.
- About Us
Shamanic Harmonics has grown from inspiration seeded at the 2008 World Psychedelic Forum/ LSD Symposium in Basel, Switzerland put on to celebrate the 102nd birthday of Albert Hofmann, creator of LSD. Birthed within the depths of a downward spiraling economy, Shamanic Harmonics has been dedicated to creating and spreading art inspired by psychedelic sacraments – at prices affordable to everyone. We believe that everyone should be able to have a piece of inspiring art on their walls (or clothes!), and that it should be within reach of everyone in the community, not just a select few. With this in mind, we have tried to create entire lines of high-quality hand-crafted and customized items, that are classy, discrete, inspiring, and also unavailable elsewhere – and at the same time cost under or around $20. We create unique iron-on patches, glow-in-the-dark psychedelic molecule pendants, glow-in-the-dark necklace pendants made with LSD blotter art, canvas prints using mixed media, like the LSD Mandala which incorporates original artwork and genuine LSD Blotter Art, or the newly designed DMT Mandala. We also have a line of glow-in-the-dark organic cotton t-shirts. The mission of Shamanic Harmonics is to spread the gospel of psychedelia far and wide, in a way that is safe for our family and those around us.
