Era: The Consortium 5th Anniversary Rulebook and Miniatures
Era: The Consortium is an epic Sci-Fi Tabletop RPG with 500 years of playable history.
Within this history, every sub-genre of Sci-Fi is available, meaning that you can play as colonists taming a new world, explorers encountering alien races, soldiers in a war against a hostile alien race, resistance members fighting against an oppressive government, and anything else you can think of!
The endless possibilities have opened up the Consortium to some amazing roleplaying experiences, from being a member of the Resistance, trying to restore it after the Orion Incident to time travel to change the history of the Consortium!
It's been five years since we first launched on Kickstarter. Since then, the universe has grown more than we ever imagined! With 13 expansions - each of which offers a new dimension for gameplay - three versions of the Rulebook, plus multiple sessions and campaigns released over that time, we have created a lot.
But now it's time to take a step further...
We're offering three unique rewards with this Kickstarter. There's also an opportunity to get your hands on any or all of the Era: The Consortium books at a Kickstarter special price!
The ten highly-detailed miniatures (eight Stiletto Unit and two Smertios Security Guard types) have been modelled on a 32mm scale by the amazing Heriberto Martinez and are all available via this Kickstarter. They are being cast in high-quality resin in the UK by an experienced supplier.
They have been looked at and worked on by some of the best in the industry, including Giraldez Studios, who painted a one-of-a-kind set for us (it's available on this Kickstarter!):
Miniatures are supplied unpainted, some assembly required. Casting by Rob Huntley from Warploque Miniatures.
Here are a number of images of assembled, unpainted Miniatures:
Here's a video showing each of the miniatures in turn in detail:
This 420-page "Definitive" version of the Era: The Consortium rulebook features additional GM advice, tips for what period to run in each of the sub-genres of Sci-Fi and significantly more of the history to flesh out the framework we created.
The 5th Anniversary edition builds further on that, resolving a few errata and introducing a unique cover layout which will forever mark you as one of the few who got this Limited Edition version of the game.
Here's a quick peek at the layout of the book, by Keith Draws!
The unique 5th Anniversary Era: The Consortium T-Shirt comes in black with the 5th Anniversary logo on it. This is a Kickstarter exclusive, so don't miss out!
Of course, you can get all Era: The Consortium books at Kickstarter special prices, as well - the full range of rulebooks and expansions is available to backers:
Five years ago, the Orion Incident occurred. A small group of heroes boarded the largest ship in the Consortium to stop a plot that would otherwise have killed 14 billion humans and aliens.
Now, you can join them in their fight with eight unique miniatures - one for each of these big damn heroes - and a squad of Smertios Security troops who tried to stop them.
Without further ado, allow me to introduce these heroes and villains to you!
And, finally, a comparison between the various Stiletto Unit characters:
Well, we had a camera, miniatures and some time, so we couldn't help ourselves...
The Era d10 ruleset is designed to allow you to experience this universe in a way that is as unobtrusive as possible without being misrepresentative. By choosing your skills carefully, your character can dominate in any of 5 forms of combat, talk their way out of any situation or protect their teammates from harm.
The rules could be described as "A Success-counting dice pool system where you roll Attribute + Skill in d10s and the difficulty of the task determines which numbers count as Successes."
In case that was a bit too brief or jargony, here's a bit more detail:
The system is based around multiple dice - the more skilled you are, the more dice you have - and a variable goal based on activity difficulty.
Using an Attribute and Skill system, which each define their own areas of influence, you roll your dice depending on what you're attempting - whether Dexterity + Engineering for a precision piece of work, Intelligence + Engineering for a more theoretical problem or Luck + Engineering for a complete long shot, you'll be able to adapt to your circumstances and focus on your strengths.
Although you roll more dice the more skilled you are, the number you are attempting to reach varies depending on the difficulty of the action - if shooting someone in clear conditions, the GM would ask for a 7. If someone was laying a mine, more likely a 6. Firing over your shoulder at someone 30 metres away, while crouching behind a low wall would definitely be a 10!
Here are some videos which demonstrate the rules in action:
You can download a character sheet from our website.
Character Creation - In this video, I create a Smertios Security Guard called John Smith to give you an idea of how it works!
Grapple Rules - In this video, John Smith faces off against the Ximian Worker Styxtirian in a grapple to the death!
Ranged Combat Rules - In this video, John Smith goes up against drunken sniper Alex Gyter and proves that not every shot he fires is lethal!
Persuasion Rules - In this video, John Smith faces his greatest challenge yet, a persuasion attempt from Steve Adams, the Voice of the Resistance!
We're happy to answer any questions you have about the rules, just ask in the comments!
Angel Giraldez of Giraldez Studios obviously sees a lot of miniatures! Here's what he had to say about the Era: The Consortium Miniatures:
"Good scifi miniatures with great details, I really enjoyed painting them!"
Over the last 5 years, Era: The Consortium and its expansions have received critical acclaim from many. Here are just a few of those reviews:
"Era: The Consortium is a truly unique SF. The mechanics […] certainly work really well and complement a game that distinguishes itself through a rich history, the opportunity to play in different time periods and a multitude of genre and style options a GM can choose from."
"It is literally the best sci-fi Role Playing Game I have ever seen and hence Era The Consortium is the game that I have been looking for."
"There are a number of other books being launched for this and given the work that’s gone into this, I can see them going far.”
"It is powered by a solid rule set, and is elevated by entertaining setting vignettes and great artwork that really conveys the game. All provided in a great looking PDF.”
"It's certainly a roleplaying game gem..."
From Talking About Games:
"Reading over this game has made me want to start GMing again!"
"The only game I have ever played that got grapple rules right - they were simple and easy to follow."
"An absolute beginner to tabletop games, I picked up the rules quickly and was having fun within half an hour on my first session!"
"I find one of the strongest points of your game to be the massive amount of story and options for your character to take when customising them."
Want to know what a session sounds like? We've been running videocast sessions for several months, which can be found here (I recommend episode 3!)
If you want just audio, it's available on Podbean, and you can also check out the "Dice and Stuff" podcast of their game as the Resistance's "Claymore Unit"!
Ed sat down with Jon Maness of the Swarmcast Podcast. They discussed some awesome stuff, and even had a quick chat about exclusive info, so check it out here!

Risks and challenges
Shades of Vengeance has run over 40 crowdfunding campaigns on Kickstarter. While we haven't been mistake-free, we're very proud of our on-time delivery record (which is over 95% on time or early!).
We use each successive Kickstarter to build on the lessons learned from the previous, and we learn fast. At this point, we're confident in our ability to deliver the rewards we're committing to and to keep you informed if there are any delays.
The biggest individual challenge for this Kickstarter is managing the production and delivery of the miniatures. Ed's a Project Manager by trade and has some experience in this area, however!
We're dedicated first and foremost to continuing delivering you the best material we can, and secondly to bring it to you on time. We hope you'll support our efforts to do that!
