EDIT: We've had the assistance of fans of the game over at Improv-Asion to create a live-action trailer for the game:
"A hundred years ago, something happened that would change the fate of humanity forever. Some say it was a biological weapon, others claim a parasite evolved. Most don’t care. Whatever truths are hidden behind a century of distrust, fear, lies, war and death, everyone agrees about one thing: it is airborne and it’s attacking humans. Every day, our numbers dwindle.
There is no hope left to save our species, only a chance to survive until tomorrow.”
We've had a number of reviews by various people around the world! They've all been linked to in the Updates, but here are a few:
- "There is so much to discuss in this game from the incredible design of the handbook, to the insane amount of effort put into the rules and gameplay systems." - BlotGaming.com
- - https://rpggeek.com/thread/1559523/era-survival-core-rulebook-review"Era: Survival is a great tabletop roleplaying game that easily distinguishes itself from other survival-type games through several things." - RPGGeek
- "Era: Survival feels different from all of the other post-apocalyptic games around and that’s no small achievement. The history, the many Factions and especially the great Missions and Campaigns help to make the setting come alive. Short stories, above-average (and, in places, superb) illustrations and lots of details make the setting come alive. Recommended!" - RPG.net
This is a video review done with a little bit of me answering questions and a lot of very silly images... I thought it was pretty fun!
"If you like... to have creative uses for non-Combat Skills, even inside of Combat, and want to focus on roleplaying, this is a great game system for that!"
In Era: Survival, you play as humans trying to survive the post-apocalyptic world of Gaia.
Humanity is facing extinction. There's no cure for the parasite known as Infection: no-one expects that our species will be around in another 100 years.
How do you choose to survive? - you have many choices!
Are you going to become a Raider, preying on the weak to survive, allowing your weapons to do the talking?
Will you use your cunning to chase rumours of a Vault, armed with a light and a palmtop computer, hoping to uncover treasures left from before the Cataclysm, which will provide wealth beyond your wildest dreams?
Or perhaps you'll take the jobs one of the more powerful factions offers, hoping to work your way up and gain a reward that way?
The choice is yours...
Era: Survival allows you to explore a post-apocalyptic world 100 years after a Cataclysm that spread Infection, turning most of the warm-blooded creatures on Gaia into Mutants and Shambling zombies.
The people of Gaia have fundamentally different views which have led Humanity to splinter into numerous factions. These factions have complicated interactions, some working in near-alliances and others being ready to shoot on sight! Each faction also has its own view on how to survive extinction: while some search for a cure or isolate themselves far from the main centres of population, others seek to harness the power of the Mutants to gain power, or believe that Infection is the best course for Humanity.
Most modern features of Gaia are known and mapped, but Salvagers still exist, searching the ruins of fallen cities for the supplies needed by towns... and some are even lucky enough to find ancient "Vaults" from before the Cataclysm containing treasure troves of supplies.
With the Infected overrunning more towns every day, it's becoming increasingly dangerous out there...
Will You Survive?
Era: Survival is the newest game from Shades of Vengeance, brought to you by the team that created Era: The Consortium and Era: Lyres. It uses the same Era d10 Rule Set (which you can find out more about below!), offering compatibility with our other tabletop RPGs. You can try it out here or check out press and blogger reviews of our games here.
Download our Quickstart Pack for free and give the game a try!
Also available on DriveThruRPG!
We're running this Kickstarter to help fund a print run of our newest Core Rulebook in the UK and US!
Shades of Vengeance is already working on the first supplements (which we'll put in as Stretch Goals!), which will expand the grim, post-apocalyptic world of Gaia beyond anything you've ever seen in survival RPGs, with plenty of room to add your own ideas, locations, adventures and protagonists.
Note: The £3 Tier has been replaced with a £1 Tier which offers the same reward!
A note for EU backers: We post all of our Rulebooks (Paperback and Hardback) in book boxes to ensure they arrive with you in the best possible condition.
Era d10 is a system that focuses on narrative-driven gaming, with Skills and Attributes that can be combined in any configuration to support player and GM storytelling.
Combat is fast and deadly, with a Kill Threshold providing a lethality to weapons, supporting a straightforward and intuitive system.
The rules could be generally described as "a Success-counting dice pool system where you roll Attribute + Skill in d10s and the difficulty of the task determines which numbers count as Successes. Most rolls are opposed, with whoever gains a greater number of Successes being deemed the winner."
Too brief or jargony? Here's a short series of videos showing character creation and some example rolls:

50% Printing and Shipping - around half of the money brought in will be going to Printing & Shipping of the rewards.
5% Kickstarter - Kickstarter takes its normal 5% cut.
20% Writers - Some of the writers have not yet been paid for their work on Era: Survival, so they are being paid a percentage of the Kickstarter's funds!
25% Expansions for Era: Survival! - We have loads of ideas, beyond what is stated above: Faction Books for more of the factions and details about more regions of Gaia, to name just a few.
Risks and challenges
This is the 5th rulebook that we've produced as a company. We'd be lying if we claimed there were no risks involved, but we've run 7 Successful Kickstarters for our own products and 3 for external games that we helped to develop and we've not let anyone down yet!
We're working with artists that we've been interacting with for some time and writers who know what they are doing, working with us. We're using printers who have served us well in the past and shipping methods that worked well for Era: The Consortium after our Kickstarter as well as to cover shipments since.
We have allowed plenty of extra time beyond our aimed delivery date for various things that can go wrong and we are very confident we can have the book in your hands before the dates stated on the Reward Tiers.
We're committed to keeping you up to date, however. If there's an issue, we'll contact you immediately. We'll make the completion and distribution of this rulebook as painless as we can and get you playing the game as soon as humanly possible (because none of us, here, are Infected. Well, maybe Ed? It would explain a lot...)!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
