For centuries, young warriors of the three Clans – Iron Wolf, Gold Salamander and Cobalt Eel – have been going to the Oracle during Proving Season in order to prove their worth.
Those chosen by the priestesses are sent to the Isle of Silence, where they must earn their True Names by solving Challenges that push them to their limits.
In this strange astral plane, only their skill, wits and physical prowess stand between them and certain failure, as they are robbed of the ability to speak…
A High Fantasy Tabletop Roleplaying Game
Era: Silence is our first High Fantasy roleplaying game. It brings with it 26 different Abilities (some magical and some not), one linked to each letter - never has it been more true to say that words have power!
The aim is to complete sufficient challenges to allow the party to earn their True Names. Once this is achieved, they will be able to return to their lives as warriors of their clan.
Of course, the characters have to complete these challenges as a team and, on the Isle of Silence, it is not possible to speak aloud: all verbal sounds are magically suppressed.
Characters for Era: Silence can be created in as little as 3 minutes (and if you don't believe me, check out the video below!) and play can immediately begin. The Rulebook has been written in such a way that it supports gameplay to a high degree, giving information about each challenge to the GM, as well as a piece to read as the characters enter each challenge, describing what they see.
While games to earn your name can be completed in as little as 2 to 4 hours, Era: Silence is open-ended.
It provides the potential to run High Fantasy campaigns with players retaining the same kind of control over their destiny that they experience in any other tabletop RPG... after all, there's not just an entire Astral Plane, but a whole world to explore!
"A totally different approach to roleplaying"
Let's face it: there's a ton of tabletop roleplaying games out there.
To set their games apart, developers are always trying to come up with unique approaches, mechanics and story ideas, which helps them create unique rules and settings... But we can honestly say there's never been anything like Era: Silence!
In Era: Silence, the Player Characters are astrally projected to a different plane, where they can't actually talk to each other! It forces players to come up with creative ways to communicate and work together.
Era: Silence proves that verbal, in-character speech is not as integral to tabletop roleplaying as a lot of players might believe. It offers a truly immersive, exciting new experience that's as addictive as they come!
Compatible with Other Era Games
The critically acclaimed Era d10 Rule Set that powers our other Tabletop Roleplaying Games has been changed only slightly for Era: Silence.
The Era d10 Rule Set used in Era: Silence has more "Skills" (called Abilities in this game) than the other versions, but operates in the same way, rewarding narrative by the players and providing swift and decisive outcomes for actions.
Our other games range across genres: science fiction (Era: The Consortium), survival horror (Era: Survival), fantasy storytelling (Era: Lyres) and superheroes (Era: The Empowered)... and people keep asking the creator, Ed Jowett, whether they all exist in the same universe!
(He says they do, and the clues are in there if you look closely!)

As you've come to expect from us, the book has been beautifully laid out (by Keith Draws), and looks excellent, with full-colour images.
The physical version will be printed as an A5 (8.5 x 5.5) "Pocket" Rulebook.
It includes background, character creation, a list of the abilities you can obtain and, in the GM section, loads of details about the Isle of Silence and its challenges, along with several non-combat encounters that can be added for flavour.
The Challenges that the players will face have multiple suggestions for how they could be approached, and there are even a few replacement challenges printed in the book to assist GMs who would like to see more replay value.
As one of the Stretch Goals, we'll be adding further Challenges to the website - while many of them are unaffected by players knowing a solution, some of the riddles would not be a challenge the second time!
SoundscapesBackground music has always been a great way to add flavour and depth to any roleplaying game. These days, it’s easier than ever to find great music that suits your favourite RPG’s genre… but not that many soundtracks are tailored specifically for the pre-published adventure or campaign you’re using.
This is half of the draft soundscape for Challenge "A", the Banshee (available in the Quickstart Pack)...
We've added them as Stretch Goals... and we'd love to give them all to you to enhance your gameplay!

50% Printing and Shipping - around half of the money brought in will be going to Printing & Shipping of the rewards.
10% Kickstarter - Kickstarter takes its normal 5% cut, plus 3-5% card fees. Any overestimation here goes to the writers!
20% Writers - Some of the writers have not yet been paid for their work on Era: Silence, so they are being paid a percentage of the Kickstarter's funds!
20% Stretch Goals - We have some ambitious Stretch Goals in this project and we need to put a good amount of money aside to ensure they are deliverable!
The critically-acclaimed Era d10 Rule Set is a system that focuses on narrative-driven gaming, with Abilities (called Skills in other Era games) and Attributes that are combined in any configuration to support player and GM storytelling.
The rules could be generally described as "a Success-counting dice pool system where you roll Attribute + Skill in d10s and the difficulty of the task determines which numbers count as Successes. Most rolls are opposed, with whoever gains a greater number of Successes being deemed the winner."

Example Dice Rolls:
Ed Jowett is continuing to be totally unstoppable in terms of creating new games, attempting to push the boundaries of what people expect from a tabletop RPG that little bit further. Era: Silence has been an amazing experiment with a fantastic result, that he is very pleased with!
Sophia Michailidou has once again lent her talents to the illustration of one of our games and has thoroughly enjoyed it! The opportunity to draw true magic for one of these games is a new one for her, as it's not something we've ever done before.
Keith Draws has, as always, contributed the layout of the Rulebook and it's looking stunning! He's followed the themes of the game excellently, as we've come to expect, delivering something that's certainly eye-catching and fun to read.
Leo Cosh not only contributed to several of the specific challenges, but also is providing the soundscapes for each Challenge as we meet the Stretch Goals.
Our initial Stretch Goals revolve around Soundscapes for the challenges, similar to the example given above!
Note: The Audio Stretch Goals are a link to the draft Soundscapes where they have been released, so just click to listen!
Risks and challenges
Shades of Vengeance has been creating roleplaying games for several years now, and all of our previous Kickstarter projects have been successful. From the beginning, we have shown we will keep on supporting all of our roleplaying game lines with their own adventures, supplements, free downloads and/or podcasts.
'Era: Silence' has already been written. All of the artwork has been done and the book is ready to be printed.
Shades of Vengeance always pays its artists and writers and this Kickstarter project - like all Kickstarters we run - is being run to make sure we assure proper distribution.
If we reach one or more stretch goals, we can reward our team members with more work and opportunities to showcase their talents in a great-looking new roleplaying game book!
Additionally, we will continue our commitment to you to inform you if anything is delayed, as soon as we know ourselves.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
