Milford Green | A one-shot Victorian alien adventure comic
***THERE ARE NOW NEW & IMPROVED STRETCH GOALS AT £4,000 & £5,000***
Apart from winning "Prettiest Village in the British Empire, 1897" Milford Green is a normal village in the rolling hills of Southern England. That is until on one summer's evening, Alfie Fairfield, a socially awkward inventor, sees some kind of flying vehicle shoot across the sky and crash land into a field. Being a curious fellow who is interested in any type of machinery, Alfie investigates to find out that we are not alone in this universe.
Milford Green is the complete one-shot story of what happened on that night in 1897.
My name is Samuel George London, I'm from Hampshire in the UK and I'm a comic book writer. Well, I've got a regular day-job but in my spare time, when I'm not looking after my 9-month old daughter, I write comic books.
I came up with the idea of Milford Green last summer. I was walking in the hills of Hampshire when a vision of an alien spacecraft shot across the sky right in front of me. I couldn't get this image out of my head, and over the following months a story about where this vision came from formed in my head.
By November I wrote a script for the story, and by December I found an artist who is a perfect fit for the art of both the Victorian era and aliens.
A successful Kickstarter would help us fund the artist (who drew all the concept art below) to illustrate the 48 pages of Milford Green, as well as make a first print run of self-covered saddle stitched comics for all you wonderful backers out there! Plus getting all of the other bits and bobs sent to you that are available through the different reward levels :)
Now without further ado, let me introduce you to our artist Mikael Hankonen. Mikael is from Finland and is the creator of a fantastic webcomic called Year In Hereafter. You can check out more of Mikael's work on his DeviantArt page here if you want, but below are a couple of stunning samples.
As you can see, Mikael is able to draw both creative creatures and detailed Victorian scenery, which is absolutely ideal for Milford Green. With that in mind, here are our five main characters...
Those character cards give you a couple of clues as to what is to come but without giving too much away, here is what Mikael has to say...
"I joined up with Samuel to work on Milford Green as the artist after hearing of his intentions to mix sci-fi and Victorian history together. Being quite fond of both genres I was keen to be involved. During the conceptual process and planning I've found Samuel to be very professional and have enjoyed working with him. I can't wait to draw these characters in action!"
And here's what the Twitter-verse has to say about Milford Green...
And finally, discover more about Milford Green's origins right from the horses mouth on THE AWESOME COMICS PODCAST...
The script is written, the artist is on board, the printers are ready and as long as we're fully funded we'll be able to have all of your rewards with you by July 2018.
The bookmark, poster and t-shirt designs are not yet finalised as we'd like you, the backers, to vote on which designs they should be after we're funded. Once the illustration process is well under way we'll send out a few designs in April for you to vote on. The voting will close at the end of April to give us plenty of time to get all the rewards ready to send out promptly in July.
For those backing us from £5 and above you'll receive your one month subscription to Comichaus two weeks after this Kickstarter finishes, in March. For those that haven't come across Comichaus before, it's a comic book streaming app that gives you access to hundreds of comics from Judge Dredd to Vanguard. And if you're a creator it's a great place to upload your comics to, as 50% of the revenue goes back to creators. You can find out more on their website (or find it on your app store) and sign up for a 14 day free trial. www.comichaus.com/app
£3,000 is our initial target but our first stretch goal is to improve your reading experience. £4,000 will allow us to upgrade all the print copy rewards and above from being self-covered with saddle stitching to a lovely graphic novel style perfect bound book. This includes the extra postage that will be required to send a heavier book.
(These images are examples of the different types of bindings and do not reflect exactly what the final book will look like.)
Plus, we'll add 4 "behind-the-scenes" pages to the book, for both print and digital, to give you even more insight into the creation process. Taking the total pages of the book to 52.
Fingers crossed we'll be able to at least reach our initial goal but reaching our first stretch goal would be amazing. As it will not only give you a better reading experience but it will also encourage us to think about how we could further develop the story of Milford Green. You'll see what we mean when you read it!
Our second stretch goal aims at improving your drinking experience! The pub that features in Milford Green is called The Royal Oak, and what pub is with out its beer coasters. £5,000 will enable us to add 4 beer coasters from The Royal Oak to all the "+Print Copy & Bookmark" backers rewards and above. As with the other rewards we haven't finalised a design yet but we will send out some designs in April for all the backers to vote on.
Thanks for reading, and if you've got any questions at all please be sure to get in touch as I'm more than happy to help!
Hoping that you're able to help make my dream become a reality,
Samuel George London

Risks and challenges
The script is written, the artist is on board, the printers are ready. The only risk we face is that we don't get funded. If you like what you see, please back us and be sure to share Milford Green with your friends.
Thanks again and see you on the other side :) SGLLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
