About

THE PROBLEM: Last-minute convenience foods have become a way of life, but those ready-to-go foods are harmful for you and our planet.  Until now . . .

THE SOLUTION: Simply Good Jars brings fresh, healthy and delicious meals to offices, hospitals, fitness centers, and universities through a fleet of smart fridges; making healthy food more accessible in places where people are pressed for time and often left with choices that are unhealthy, laden with preservatives, and minimally satisfying.

OUR MISSION: Eradicate single-use plastic + fight hunger via our Return + Reuse + Donate Program.

OUR ASK: Equality for healthy food access is of the utmost importance.  With your help, we will deeply discount our fresh, wholesome meals in undernourished neighborhoods of Philadelphia.

Healthy, Ready-To-Go Options

Over 54 million Americans lack access to fresh, healthy food.  As we are faced with greater time constraints from work, commuting, etc., we often choose convenient foods with low nutritional values.  1/3 of Americans opt for fast-food every day.

Convenience foods are not only jeopardizing our health, but also generating alarming amounts of waste.  Packaging is one of the largest causes of waste.  Last year, over 141 million metric tons of plastic packaging hit our landfills and oceans.

Chef Jared Cannon founded Simply Good Jars with the health of individuals and the health of the planet in mind.  He set out to change the way we think about consumption—from the kind of food we eat, to the package it comes in, and to how it serves the community.

Our fresh, chef-crafted meals are locally sourced, guaranteed under 600 calories, and come in reusable BPA-free jars.  We stock them in our Simply Smart Fridges, a smart vending machine that we place in your workplace, gym, hospital, etc., so that healthy options are within reach 24/7.

Return + Reuse + Donate Program

Our company is founded on sustainability and social responsibility.  When customers are finished, they can toss their jars to the return bin next to the fridge.  Not only do we reuse the jars to eliminate waste, but we also help to feed someone in need.

Since our founding, we have saved over 2 tons of trash from hitting landfills and oceans & we have donated over 14,000 meals to the hungry and homeless.

Purchasing Healthy Food Has Never Been Easier

At any Simply Smart Fridge, you can access our healthy, delicious meals in just 10 seconds or less! To make a purchase:

  •  SWIPE your credit/debit card and the fridge will unlock
  •  GRAB what you'd like and then close the fridge door
  •  GO! The fridge's smart technology only charges you for what you've taken from the fridge.

Also, our Simply Smart Fridges have live inventory management which allows us to optimize offerings at each location so that we can minimize or even eliminate food waste.

Goodness Without Compromise

We source the freshest local, in-season and organic produce.  Our chef-crafted menu changes weekly featuring a variety of meals including vegetarian, vegan, dairy-featuring, and gluten-friendly options.  All meals are hand-prepared with love in our kitchen, right in the heart of Philadelphia!

Each jar is under 600 calories and designed to be a complete, balanced, and satisfying meal that gives you lasting fullness and energy.  No preparation is required . . . just shake up and enjoy! Our products range from $4.95 for breakfast/snacks and $7.95 to $10.95 for our salads.

Transparency is important to us.  We use only real whole foods.  There’s no added sugars, artificial flavors, preservatives, or fillers.

Improving Our Community's Access to Healthy Food

Even though our country has made improvements to healthy food access in urban neighborhoods, healthy food is still simply out of reach for millions of Americans.  Unfortunately most of these underserved communities are oversaturated with fast-food restaurants, liquor stores, and other sources of inexpensive, processed food with little to no nutritional value.

We have set out bring our fresh, healthy meals to neighborhoods around Philadelphia with limited access.  With the money from this campaign, we will place our Simply Smart Fridges in undernourished communities and stock them with our jars (which will be heavily discounted).

Chef > MBA > Biz Owner

Founder + CEO Jared Cannon’s passion for cooking started before he was tall enough to reach the kitchen counter.  Little wonder he wound up at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, graduating in 2004 and spending six years in South Florida working for Ritz Carlton hotels while simultaneously earning a bachelor's degree in hotel/restaurant/hospitality management from Florida International University.

But after 18 years in the restaurant industry, he recognized the need for a provider of convenient healthy food.  He was inspirited by his own struggle to find the time to eat healthfully while working full-time and attending Temple University's Fox School of Business, where he earned his MBA.

“When you’re busy, it’s hard to eat.  But why is that?” Cannon says.  Additionally, as a chef, he “was constantly seeing food go in the garbage, yet I knew the reality of this country’s hunger problem.  So I thought who better than a chef to solve this by being creative with what’s available?” Cannon asked.  “It made sense to . . .  be able to reuse the package by getting it back, so that way there is no waste and every jar back would give a meal,” Cannon said.

So in November 2017, Cannon took what he calls “the leap of faith,” launching Simply Good Jars with $1,000 and an idea: “Eat well, feel good, waste less.”
